Brands are often at the forefront of anything on-trend, right? The Doncic—Davis saga is no different. And to no one’s surprise, the brand, which has the silhouette of Michael Jordan, has come out to support. Of course, Luka, as he has a major contract with the sneaker company. Well, it is not the only brand to lap on the issue. The PepsiCo-owned sports drink brand has gone all too far to take ‘Hollywood upside down’! And amid this war, a former Lakers star reacts to the ‘ongoing battle’.

Imagine an ad with the words “Good Luck, Y’all.” along with the face of an imposing Luka Doncic! That’s the Jumpman’s welcome gift for the tall Slavic superstar. Indirectly clowning Dallas for the ‘seismic trade’? Or adding fuel to the fire with the caption “It’s just business. Until it isn’t…..” You never know. Wait until you see the next move.

Not too far away, Gatorade had a unique ad for their endorsed athlete, who went all the way from Dallas to LA. What did they do? Made the Ls of the HOLLYWOOD turned upside down, resembling ‘77’. Oh creative, at its best! Yep, it’s Luka Doncic’s new jersey number. Further, it captioned “It’s Showtime” with a magic wand emoji, implying the Lakers’ peak showtime era. Perhaps a prelude to another historic period? This is how the LA rolls. With that said, an ex-Lakers seems to be just as excited.

On a Run It Back episode with Chandler and Michelle, Lou Williams jot down his thoughts on these grandiose ads. He commented, “This is, this is being embraced by the city. This is welcoming him with open arms. And we’re excited to have you here and you know what better place than the showtime Lakers. This is a town that loves their superstars. You have one here that’s gonna be here for a number of years so that was great to see for him.” Rightly said, it is not just the brands, but the whole of Los Angeles laying the red carpet for the 5X NBA All-Star.

Being a co-host of the NBA show, he has actively participated in all of ‘Luka Doncic trade’ talks. Cheering on the NBA Rookie of the Year, 2019, Williams said, “Luka era has begun!” After all, he is quite invested in how Luka Doncic and LeBron will manage the Lakers offense. Two dominant players — a point forward and a point guard. Among them, who will initiate the offense? Meanwhile, Luka is making waves both inside and outside the court.

Is Luka’s trade to the Lakers a boon or a bane for the Jordan sneakers’?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Luka Doncic the missing piece for the Lakers' return to their Showtime glory days?

Have an interesting take?

Luka is among the few who have a signature sneaker line with the revered brand. And a contract extension that lasts till 2029! With his popularity always on the rising side, of course. Which brand would want to miss out on this kind of chance? An absolute miracle for the brand. So, it isn’t far-fetched to say that the Nike and Michael Jordan partnered basketball sneaker line is one of the biggest benefactors of the Luka trade.

To make the ‘Luka 3 Imaginarium’ sneakers more accessible to fans, the price was dropped from $130 to $84.97. Right after the trade! The only outcome is the obvious. Luka’s already loved sneaker line shot up to a new height. Might add the fact that the superstar proudly adorned his first signature Jordan Brand sneakers at his Lakers debut. Yes, his very own Jordan Luka 1. Genius marketing, should you say?

Though the trade has been a boost, the Jordan brand has trust in Luka for quite some time now. In 2023, they decided to re-sign Luka Doncic with the brand as they found him to be ‘special’. Not just the endorsements, the legend, Michael Jordan too has always showered Luka with praise. How? By highlighting Luka’s advanced basketball IQ and skill sets. Way before anyone had imagined the heights he could reach. Well, it is not a hard job for MJ to notice on-court talents.
