The reports of Joe Biden facing pressure from his party following his debate against Donald Trump have come true. Multiple reports suggested that a majority section of the Democrats wanted Biden to step down as a nominee for the Presidential race. Although Biden gave in, he endorsed Kamala Harris as his successor for the nomination. And the move seems to have ex-Los Angeles Lakers star Metta World Peace’s support.

Taking to his official account on X, Metta stated he is looking forward to the parties coming together for a better future. “As an Independent supporter, I definitely have to congratulate the VP and acknowledge her enthusiasm…,” he said. This comes from the former Lakers star in reply to Harris’ post in which she thanked Biden and furthered her case as the presidential nominee.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she wrote on X. The incumbent Vice President further doubled down on her will to unite the Democratic Party and the nation to defeat Trump. Harris also urged for a donation from those who support her in her pursuit.

It is worth mentioning Biden had retracted his name from the Presidential race through an official statement. He mentioned he had intentions to seek re-election, but he found backing out in the best interest of his party. Now, Biden wants to focus on serving as the President for his remaining term. Further, in his statement, he justified picking Kamala Harris as the VP in 2020 as his best decision. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he added.

After effects of Joe Biden endorsing Kamala Harris as the Presidential nominee

If the reports are to be believed, Biden’s announcement has left the party amid uncertainties. It’s not as if no Presidential nominee has backed out of the race in the past. Lyndon B. Johnson and Harry Truman are two such names. But no incumbent president has backed out from a re-election so close to the elections. With just 107 days left, the Presidential elections are scheduled to be held on November 5 this year.

Meanwhile, Harris’ campaign officials have reportedly started working on strengthening her stand as a contender for Presidential nominee. The officials have made multiple calls to confirm support from delegates. This move will also ensure to counter any potential would-be challengers against Harris.

However, so far no other big name from the Democratic Party has emerged as a challenger. The reports state some major names in the party, who could be potential contenders, plan to sit out on this. Meanwhile, Harris seems to have external support as well — the ex-Lakers star Metta World Peace being just one of many such individuals.
