Can any current player match Michael Jordan's legendary aura and influence on and off the court?

Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the GOAT of basketball. With six NBA championships under his name with the Chicago Bulls, the former shooting guard has etched his name on the sport. But it is not just his on-court accomplishments that have made him such a revered figure. It is also his aura, his presence, and his ability to command attention, and one of the former NBA players had experienced the same feeling firsthand. But How?

In the recent episode of “Gil’s Arena Podcast,” when Josiah Johnson came up with the topic of ‘Aura’, Rashad McCants spared no time to share one of the incidents that he regarded as the ultimate aura moment. “Bro, when I tell you, when he walked in the room, it was like a ripple effect that went like, wooof, I’m here. Everyone stopped,” said Mccants during the podcast. But that was not only it.

McCants also shared one of the incidents during one of the camps that had stunned everyone. “Second time it happened was at his camp. We all camping we in there, all of a sudden everybody’s like (astonished),” said McCants. He went on to emphasize how Jordan was shining and emitting his presence. The fact that this anecdote left Gilbert Arenas, who is known for his quick wit and outspoken nature, momentarily at a loss for words, speaks volumes.

McCants’ story is just one example of the many ways in which Jordan’s aura has impacted people. In the NBA, Jordan was known for his fearsome competitiveness and his ability to intimidate opponents. But he was also known for his kindness and generosity, and for his willingness to help others. In 2019, Jordan donated $1 million to help victims of Hurricane Dorian. He has also been a vocal advocate for various social causes, including education and environmental protection.

Jordan’s aura is a testament to his greatness as a basketball player and as a human being. But did you know Jordan’s era was not defined by the NBA only?

The Chicago Bulls legend had dominated the NBA scene for almost two decades. And now, even after years of retirement from the league, people are not over with the time when they first met His Airness.

During an episode of the “All the Smoke” podcast, the boxer Andre Ward shared about the time when he experienced Jordan’s Aura. “Mike [Michael Jordan], man, he got aura. He walk in the room right now, everything gonna stop…He talk crazy and he competing to this day. Whether he golfing, you know, he like to play cards and stuff”, Ward said during the podcast.

The time that Ward talked about was in the early 2000s when he had just signed his deal with the Jordan Brand. The boxer eventually met Jordan a few days later to finalize the deal and was instantly moved by MJ’s presence.
