In his career as an NBA player, there’s not many holes in you can poke in the game of Michael Jordan. But his stint as an NBA executive is a different matter. He couldn’t replicate his six NBA championships-winning energy with the Charlotte Hornets before he finally stepped back. That hasn’t put a stop to the jokes. Now he can’t even support his college team without getting taunted for his history with the Hornets.
Jordan was at the football game where the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill team was playing. But a random fan of the rival team carried a sign taking a direct jab His Airness that has since gone viral.

ESPN’s College Gameday aired live from Charlotte on Saturday, September 2. The UNC Tar Heels were facing off against the South Carolina Gamecocks. In attendance was UNC’s most famous alum, Michael Jordan. But Gamecocks fans are not to be messed with. They didn’t even spare the Chicago Bulls legend while he was there.
During the Gameday broadcast, a South Carolina fan was holding up a scathing sign that read, “Even Jordan couldn’t win in Charlotte.”
No word on whether the fan knew MJ would be present at Gameday before designing that sign. But the sign went viral right then. It’s unclear if Jordan saw it, but perhaps he has now after it became a huge deal on the Internet.

Michael Jordan was on the Tar Heels basketball team from 1981 to 1984, eventually having his jersey retired at UNC. He had been an outstanding player in college before declaring for the 1984 NBA draft. But that’s not what the sign is talking about.
After retiring as an NBA pro, MJ kept his connection to the league and his college state through the Charlotte Hornets. He bought a minority stake in the Bobcats (renamed Hornets in 2013) in 2006 and was big on the basketball operations side from the get-go.

In 2010, MJ closed on the majority stake becoming the first former player to become a majority owner of an NBA team. But it wouldn’t go as well his former career. The 13-year era of the Charlotte Hornets under Jordan mars the basketball legend’s legacy.
The Hornets advanced to the playoffs just twice during his tenure and never advanced past the second round. In the latest season, the team went 27-55.
Following seven consecutive seasons of not making it to the playoffs, Jordan agreed to sell his majority stake in the Hornets in 2023 for $3 billion. Nonetheless, the failure still follows him to college football too.

But Jordan was the last one laughing and not that South Carolina fan. The Tar Heels won 31-17 on Saturday which probably was way better than any silly sign about an unrelated matter.
