When the Philadelphia 76ers were fighting to stay in the playoffs against the New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson’s No.1 fan Kendrick Perkins wasn’t kind to them. He toed the line when he targeted Sixers forward Tobias Harris with meme-worthy creativity. While the joke was a viral hit, it pressed a nerve for Philly fans and obviously those who love Harris. The strongest person in Tobi’s corner is Torrell Harris, his agent, and his dad. Torrell didn’t take kindly to what Perk said about his son, and a discussion was in order.

Perk narrated the aftermath of his commentary himself on Road Trippin. “I was like, ‘Oh yeah, Tobias, man, he told the team he was going to Chick-fil-A. He asked them what they wanted, and he came back with a bag full of napkins and straws.'” He went on to say, “… I said it in a jokin’ manner, but I did get a phone call from his dad, right? … His dad represent him. He’s his agent.”

As much as 76ers fans would’ve loved Torrell to rip Perk to shreds, it was not the case. It was calm and mature. Perkins recalled, “So I answered the phone, and we had an hour conversation about it. I didn’t take back what I said…but we talked about it, though. We talked about Tobias and his role with Philadelphia and things to that nature.”

While Perkins’ criticism of Harris might have irked his dad, it’s not like he was the only one constantly slamming the 31-year-old. Despite Joel Embiid’s comeback for the postseason, the Sixers lost the first-round series to the Knicks in 6 games. Worse yet, Harris went scoreless in the pivotal Game 6 and ended the series averaging just 9 points per game. This has sort of become a trend as Harris has seen his averages deteriorate over the past few seasons in the playoffs.

Perkins’ comments have riled up many in the NBA community. LeBron James reportedly unfollowed him online for his hot takes. This jab he made was salt in Philadelphia’s wounds.

Kendrick Perkins wants a Sixers-Tobi divorce

At that time, the 76ers and Knicks were fighting to stay in the playoffs. The efforts on Sixers’ end fell through in Game 6 ending 118-115. The Knicks clinched a 4-2 series win but would go on to lose in the semis. Before that, Perkins would put the Sixers players on blast on First Take.

Tobias Harris, let him walk. I mean, damn,” Perkins said about Harris heading to free agency this offseason. “He asked them if they wanted something from Chick-fil-A before the game, the team told him yes and he came back with a bag full of napkins and straws. I mean he was just a no-show out there.”

At that time, Perkins was in a hilarious beef with Shaquille O’Neal over their differences over the Knicks. But even Shaq put that aside to pick Perkins’ side on the matter. Most laughed at the take but not Torrell Harris. As Perkins said, he stands by his opinion but perhaps their discussion could have implications regarding Harris’ contract.
