The SXSW world premiere of the highly anticipated Anne Hathaway-starrer, The Idea of You saw Gabrielle Union step out in style, not as the actor but as producer. The SXSW Conference & Festival in Austin, Texas served as the apt setting for one of Gab’s much touted production forays. While her husband, Dwyane Wade, was speaking at the conference as the Icon of Impact, Union was making her own impact on the red carpet. Her impact as a producer was also highlighted during an emotional moment between the producer and her biggest star.

Ahead of the screening, Anne Hathaway pulled Gabrielle Union into an emotional hug to thank her for being the amazing colleague she was during the making of The Idea of You. Union shared that sweet moment on her Instagram stories but that was not the only heartfelt encounter they shared.

After the screening, Hathaway took a moment to thank Union in front of the audience. “I love you so much. You have no idea the gift that you’ve just given us with your responsiveness, by being so connected to every little nuance in this. I will never forget this screening.”

The story centers on Hathaway’s and Nicholas Galitzine’s characters that meet at Coachella and fall in love despite their age difference. The overwhelming acclaim to the romcom and the actors has moved Hathaway to thank fans at the premiere too.

While she isn’t on screen this time, Union was also a showstopper at the red carpet. It was not limited to her support for her actors.

The idea of Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade

Following Dwyane Wade’s successful producing stint earning an Oscar nod, the power couple were in Texas where their individual careers were celebrated at the 2024 SXSW summit. D-Wade was talking to the crowd on Thursday about everything from basketball, to his brand partners, and even his hair and skincare brand with Union.

At the same time, Gabrielle pulled out all stops for the premiere of her pet project in scene-stealing cornrows and a stunning suit. Union was eager to take the original book to the big screen after reading it. She optioned the script to Welle Entertainment and made it a reality.

Her motivation to make this movie came from her own relationship with Dwyane Wade. Nine years older than the 3x NBA champ, she said at the premiere, “People question our family, they question our love.” When she said people ask what they deserve, fans showered her with sweet affirmations.
