The big night for Dwyane Wade finally came, but is the Wade family feeling a lack of happiness as a whole? And no, we are not pointing out at the disappointment of some fans in the statue of 3x NBA Champ. But it seems that it’s D-Wade’s eldest son who might’ve just missed what he recently had been hoping for.
About a week ago it was revealed that Zaire Wade had declared for the NBA G-League draft. But it seems that none of the team has drafted the 22-year-old. The fact of the 22-year-old’s declaration was reported by multiple social media handles, and GTV Hoops was among them.
Now, there has been no official announcement regarding the 23-year-old’s status update in the G-League draft. But in a report by the Bleacher Report that lists down the player who got drafted, the 23-year-old’s name is missing. At the same time, no team has made it official with Zaire in any announcement. Like the Capital City Go Go did after drafting DJ Rodman.

The speculations were that Zaire won’t have a tough time finding a team. If you’ve been keeping up with his journey, you’d know this was not going to be his first run in the G-League. Back in 2021, he joined the Salt Lake City Stars as the 10th overall pick. But a knee injury derailed his momentum.
“It was such a surreal feeling because of all the hard work that I put in” — considering Zaire’s emotions over his first selection, a second chance would’ve felt no less than a blessing. So with the report from Bleacher Report, the statue unveiling for the Wade family might’ve felt incomplete. However, Zaire made it sure to not make the night about himself.

Zaire’s Gesture for Dwyane Wade on Statue Reveal Day Makes the 3x NBA champ emotional
On the day of Dwyane Wade’s statue unveiling, it wasn’t just the towering monument that captured everyone’s attention. It was the heartfelt words of his son, Zaire, that made the moment truly unforgettable. Imagine standing there, not as an NBA legend but as a father, hearing your son speak from the heart.
“I’m not here to talk about the accolades, but more so about the man behind the statue,” Zaire said at the start of his speech. And rather than sticking to notes, he chose to speak freely, capturing memories that defined Wade beyond the court. One of those lessons? Perseverance.

“No matter what you do in this life, you will have obstacles,” Zaire shared, echoing his father’s words. It was a message of resilience, a reminder to believe in yourself, even when things get tough or dreams feel distant. As the 23-year-old continued, Wade’s emotions got the best of him. And Kaavia, his youngest, stepped in to give him a comforting hug.
It’s moments like these that show what truly matters—Wade’s legacy as a father. One that will always stand taller than any statue. And it’s clear that even if the news of Zaire not getting drafted in the G-League might be true, it cannot affect the Wade family enough to prevent being happy for and with each other.
