Dwyane Wade is a busy bee. In 2024 Wade has put no foot wrong regarding business expansion and celebration. Starting with his Wade basketball academy, and his executive producer role with ‘The Barber of Little Rock’. Or his ownership role with NBA and WNBA teams Utah Jazz and Chicago Sky respectively. And it seems the Chicago native is ready to put his old hat back for his new adventure.

NBC announced that Dwyane Wade and LaChina Robinson would be part of the broadcasting team for the U.S. men’s and women’s basketball games, respectively. The $149 billion company will offer Wade his second stint as a broadcaster alongside play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle.

Wade was a studio analyst for TNT from 2019-22 and will call Olympic games for the first time. The Naismith Hall of Famer was the leading scorer for Team USA’s “Redeem Team,” which captured the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games. It will be Robinson’s third trip to the Olympics as a commentator. The Wake Forest alum has plenty of experience with ESPN, including the NCAA Tournament and the WNBA.

It was Andrew Marchand who had previously reported the news of Wade not re-signing with TNT. Now he has thrown a shot in the dark which might come to fruition. “Dwyane Wade joining Noah Eagle on NBC’s men’s Olympic coverage. Hmm, if NBC gets the NBA, Mike Tirico-Wade No. 1 team? 🤔,” he said on X.

According to the reports, the decision was taken by Wade. TNT had offered him a new contract, but he declined to pursue other business interests. And now the 3X NBA champion is ready for his latest stint on what could become a potential audition for the new role. Reports suggest that NBC is above TNT in the race for NBA broadcasting rights.

Is Dwyane Wade back with the NBA?

The dark clouds of uncertainty are hanging over Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson for their future. Warner Bros Discovery might lose the NBA which they have been broadcasting since 1989. And it seems the executives at the NBA are happy that Dwyane Wade will be joining for the summer.

With this summer’s basketball tournaments expected to have the deepest pool of talented players and most competitive fields in any Olympics, we are thrilled that Dwyane and LaChina, each with more than a decade of experience at the sport’s highest level, will be alongside Noah to call the action,” said Rebecca Chatman, Vice President and Coordinating Producer of NBC Olympic production.

Even the Miami Heat legend is excited for his opportunity as a broadcaster.”I’m thrilled to join NBC Sports as a commentator for Team USA Men’s Basketball games. The Olympics are the world’s greatest sporting competition with elite athletes competing at the highest level on the world’s largest stage…It will be an honor to witness their journey in person and share this special experience with viewers while we unite to celebrate their pursuit of the gold.

Many scenarios need to play out before Dwyane Wade starts commentating on the league again. Firstly, NBC would surely have to win the bid to broadcast the games. Secondly, Wade would have to impress the executives about his role. However, it is still not a guarantee that it will happen. But fans can definitely expect him to commentate for the Summer Olympics.
