Dwyane Wade‘s new role at the 2024 Olympics was much more insightful than he had assumed it to be. Just like the time in 2004 when Team USA lost the gold medal. The roster, including Wade himself, won bronze. It was more of a wake-up call that the team needed to elevate their game to compete with foreign competition. And then came Team Redeem in 2008. Cut to 2024, and in his new role, Wade learned another deep lesson on what leads a team to victory.

It’s camaraderie, synergy, sportsmanship, and so much more that help a team win. The right chemistry between players is not only entertaining to watch but also an instrumental element in leading a team to victory. For the first time, Wade had the chance to call the games for Team USA at the Olympics and that opportunity gave him a new perspective.

As he watched Team USA play in the thrilling semifinal match against Team Serbia and then advance to the gold medal game against France, Wade became emotional and nostalgic. “It’s good to watch them come together as a team because that’s the hardest part about the Olympics. Can you actually come together and become a team, not a group of individuals who are very talented.” Wade said on episode 5 of the Netflix docuseries, Court of Gold. A roster of elite players is always selected for Team USA, but the players must come together and connect in order to win.

Another documentary, Team Redeem also reveals the interesting moments as well as struggles of the 2008 Team Redeem. It was a difficult period for Wade. During the 2007-08 season, he suffered serious shoulder and knee injuries, requiring surgeries for both before returning to action.

At the same time, he was braving another storm in his personal life. He was going through a divorce from his ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches. But he remained determined. At the end the Team Redeem managed to reclaim its glory winning the gold medal. His new role at the 2024 Olympics was just another thrilling experience. He was also praised for his performance.

During an interview, the 3x NBA champion alluded to the fact that his wife texted him tips as well as feedback. And that too in between the games. During halftime, Wade would check his phone and receive messages from his wife. “She texts me during halftime. I get to look at my phone and be like, certain things she’s like, ‘Ooh, OK, that was good’ or ‘Ah, that may be a little problematic.’ I get real-time feedback,” DWade told TODAY.
