Dwyane Wade is a father of 5 children. 5-year-old Kaavia Wade with wife Gabrielle Union and 2 kids Zaire Wade, and Zaya Wade from a previous marriage with Siohvaughn Funches. And Xavier Wade from Aja Metoyer. Apart from this, the Miami Heat legend also got custody of his nephew, Dahveon Morris, in 2011. And on his podcast with his father, Dwyane Wade Sr., he spoke all things life. They also discussed the Hall of Fame speech that formed an emotional bond between the two. 

On The Wine Down with Dwyane’s Dad episode, they spoke life lessons on fatherhood, health, and respecting individuality in relationships. According to Wade Sr., the Hall of Fame speech was not necessarily for him but for all fathers. “It made a difference in us being dads across the globe. To me, it wasn’t just for me it was great that it was, it was me that you know he, uh, opened it up to but for everybody that’s been through so much in life as far as dads, you know, go. I thought that that speech uh, paved the way for all us dads across the globe.”

Wade Senior has been in 3 marriages so he provided his perspective on the same. Wade Sr. was with wade’s mom Jolinda Wade for 10 years, 20 years +  in his second marriage, and now 14 years with Danielle Koping-Wade. Wade’s speech was dedicated to his father because he felt “nobody cares about the fathers.”

That’s why he felt “it’s unfortunate” because he doesn’t want to take anything away from his mother but the experience of fatherhood got him to appreciate his dad a little more. That speech was a surprise for Wade Senior as D-Wade wanted to keep it a secret.

Dwyane Wade listened to his speech after the night of celebration and “cried like a baby.” Wade Sr. too said he cried for three to four hours. He said it was an emotional night because many times fathers are misunderstood. Wade said, “I’m just being real like, it’s emotional for me to even think about no one cares what we go through and what we deal with because you know rightfully so like, you know, it’s been strong women’s had to raise kids for the very longest um, a lot of it without men right but no one understands the reasons...”

Wade started and ended his hall-of-fame speech thanking his father. “We had the same exact dream that we carried, same as that name, Dwyane Tyrone Wade. To know that we hustled all the way to the Basketball Hall of Fame is God’s will. So Pops, I know your knee’s a little sore, but would you join me on stage as we take our rightful step into basketball heaven?

Fatherhood helped Dwyane Wade connect more with his father and appreciate him more. Understanding the hardships closely after experiencing them himself.
