High school basketball has the same obsessed fandom as college basketball. After all, the roots of some of the intense rivalries and the best duos in the league are right here. The most notable development happens in college basketball, but we might have stumbled upon one as LeBron James‘ youngest son defeated Dwyane Wade‘s godson to advance to the championship game. Notably, Dorell Wright’s eldest son, Devin Quentin Dwyane Wright, carries the names of his father’s former teammates, Dwyane Wade and Quentin Richardson. Wade recalled the game, expressing disappointment and making certain allegations.
Just back in January, Wade had shown up for his godson, Devin Quentin Dwyane Wright, to watch the Redondo Seahawks play. He posed alongside the players for a photo. Wright shared their group picture on Instagram, giving a shout-out to the NBA legend. “Dev God Dad pulled up to see him and the fellas hoop last night!! Forever grateful bruv!!” he wrote in the caption. Wade also commented on the post. The Seahawks Game is what Wade and the crew discussed in the latest segment of their podcast.
“My godson; your son got knocked out of the playoffs vs. Sierra Canyon and I talked to you I was like DWright what happened you said,” Wade asked Wright. The father of two replied, “Got cheated point blank period time.” As soon as Wade mentioned that his godson had lost, his expression turned to disappointment. With a narrow 69-66 win in the CIF Southern Section Boys’ Basketball playoffs, Sierra Canyon ended Redondo Union’s championship hopes and fueled postgame controversy.

He was upset over the Seahawks’ loss and believed the refs had something to do with it. “I’ve never ever blamed referees. That’s just me you know what I mean. What did your team not do to be successful but when you in high school basketball one team shooting 30-something free throws and you only shooting 12 maybe it’s some BS going on so I won’t take nothing away from Sierra Canyons,” he said.

However, he praised Sierra Canyon, which featured notable players such as shooting guard Bryce Cofield and of course Bryce. Ranked the 179th overall player per ON3, Bryce Cofield put on a show, dropping 19 points in a performance that silenced critics and propelled Sierra Canyon to the championship. Sierra Canyon channeled their frustration from the Notre Dame loss into a relentless push toward the title. And the team carried over the same energy into the championship game.

LeBron James came out to support his youngest son Bryce James
Sierra Canyon won the 2025 CIF State Boys Basketball Championship and made history. In the podcast, the former Miami Heat player Wright too mentioned it, “Congrats to Sierra Canyon. They did win state championship that made me feel even better because they went down there and laid the egg.”
To witness this historic moment, Bryce’s parents were present for him. Savannah and Zhuri made an appearance. Bryce’s father, who couldn’t join the Lakers for his groin strain, ensured he was present courtside for his son.
