From father to daughter, the Chicago love runs strong in the Wade family. Although it all stems from Dwyane Wade being a Chicago native, Zaya Wade has clearly inherited the fan following for the city. And most recently, this was recognized by the Chicago Cubs through a special gesture.

The MLB team selected the 17-year-old to throw out the first pitch at the Cubs’ recent game against the St. Louis Cardinals. “Them Wades (fire emoji),” commented Dwayne Wade on the IG post shared by Cubs’ official Instagram page.

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat star’s eldest son also extended love to his sister, commenting, “hood🖤”. The post featured Zaya throwing the first pitch, as well as a snap with Clark, the Cub — official team mascot of the Chicago Cubs. D-Wade’s nephew, Dahveon Morris, also showed support for his cousin in the comment section. “That’s tuff,” he wrote.

It is worth mentioning Dwyane Wade and the Cubs owner Laura Ricketts share a distant business bond with each other. Both of them were part of the ownership group to whom the Chicago Sky sold nearly 10% stake last year. Although, the exact reason that Zaya was chosen to throw the first pitch is not known. But the team did win their match up against the Cardinals 3-1.

The time LeBron James donned Cubs uniform after losing a bet to Dwyane Wade

The Bet was based on Wade supporting his city Chicago while Bron rooting for his 2016 NBA home team, Cleveland. Not only did the Cubs defeat the Cleveland Indians, but also claimed the World Series that year. And to honor his bet against the Miami Heat icon, James had to wear the Cubs uniform to his game against the Chicago Bulls.

“So before I walk into the United Center and get bombarded with cameras and everything, yeah, I lost this bet. And this is unfortunate what I have to go into the arena in,” Bron said in a video shared by the Uninterrupted. Meanwhile, upon reaching the venue, multiple media members surrounded Dwyane Wade and LeBron.

Before the 4x NBA champ could say something, Wade hilariously praised his Banana Boat Crew friend by posing a rhetorical question. “Doesn’t he look good, everybody?” However, in a post-game interview, Wade stated he actually thought James looked good. “He actually did look like he could play baseball. I would have looked terrible.” From The Flash taking a major interest in Cubs to his daughter’s first pitch for the team, it seems we really have come a long way.
