Zaya Wade flaunted a sleek look! Dwyane Wade and his family are understandably quite occupied as the year-end approaches. Union was busy with her movie shoot, while the basketball legend had to be constantly in action for his business. Even the Wade kids are busy. The whole family rarely gathers for fun unless it’s a special occasion. However, Wade’s second eldest made a point to attend a recent event, while her father and stepmom, Gabrielle Union, also joined her for the night.
The OUT 100 kicked off its celebrations on December 11, inviting celebrities to join in. This yearly event honors influential LGBTQ+ advocates and people who’ve made a significant difference. At only 16, Zaya Wade has already made an impression on the world. The model and influencer came out as transgender in 2020, and, along with dad Dwyane Wade and stepmom Gabrielle Union, she has been an impactful voice for queer rights.
Dwyane, along with Union, has become a staunch ally for the LGBTQ+ community and has tried to be a role model for other parents. He even partnered with his daughter to work on Translatable, a digital platform that provides LGBTQ+ youth a safe space to express themselves by submitting content. All these brought Zaya recognition at the Out100 event and her ever-supportive parents were there beside her, as always. Dwyane and Gabrielle took the red carpet alongside Zaya, and put their best fashion forward.

Dwyane wore a white sweater layered under a dark denim jacket with dark slacks, courtesy of the Italian clothing company Loro Piana. 17-year-old Zaya opted for the Lena Jacket Dress courtesy of Ronny Kobo. The black minidress featured a line of buttons running down the front placket of the frock and included faux fur leopard print cuffs and a collar. coordinated her dress with a pair of black, patent leather Mary Jane heels. Her glam featured a straight hairstyle with a middle part and her makeup included rosy cheeks and a glossy lips.
On the other hand, Gabrielle opted for a look courtesy of Burberry. The actress and author wore a checkered minidress from the British luxury fashion house, which she coordinated with a snip bag in a shade of almond. The Bring It On alum completed the look with studded leather pumps in a shade of shale. Her long, braided hair was swept over one shoulder, while her makeup featured a natural look with a hint of a smokey eye and glossy lip.
Zaya was honored at the event as one of this year’s groundbreakers. She was honored alongside Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who was named the 2024 Out100 Icon of the Year, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Understandably, the teenager is elated. “I’m freaking out! These are icons in queer media. This is my celebrity freak out, so I’m dying. I’m so honored to be honored. I have so much love and happiness for the community,” she told Out.

As she gears up to head to college next year, the activist hopes her work will make an even bigger impact next year. “This year I wanted to find myself and I’m ready to bring the energy next year for my community. I’m manifesting so much progress for Translatable,” Zaya said. And as it is said, everything starts from home, Zaya has that support in abundance.
Dwyane and Union have been vocal in their support of their daughter, using their platform to have important public conversations about transgender youth. “She’s the strong one in this family. She’s a hero. It’s our family’s job to make sure that we listen to her. We listen to the doctors. We ask questions and we formulate our own ideas of how Zaya should be and should be raised in this world and we don’t allow others to do that for us,” Dwyane said in June 2021. In fact, in April 2023, on an episode of Headliners with Rachel Nichols, the retired athlete explained that his family moved from Florida partly out of support for Zaya.
“That’s another reason why I don’t live in that state. I mean, obviously, the tax [situation] is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there,” Dwyane had said when asked about Florida politicians who are proponents of LGBTQ policies. His work for the transgender community has earned him the Elevate Prize Catalyst Award in May. During his speech for the award, Dwyane said that he was “just a parent doing what a good parent should do.” With such supportive parents Zaya is making waves on the runway as well.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union also stand by Zaya in her modeling career
In the fall of 2022, Zaya modeled for Tiffany & Co.’s new all-gender bracelets. Then the 17-year-old fashion influencer walked for Miu Miu at Paris Fashion Week in 2023. She walked in an olive-green dress paired with a caramel-hued leather bag at the Fall and Winter 2023 show. The Miami Heat legend and his wife watched, teary-eyed, as they then 15-year-old fulfilled her dream.
“Thank you @zayawade for showing me what it means to believe in yourself,” stylist Thomas Christos Kikis captioned a post of Zaya’s appearance on Instagram. Later that month, Zaya had her first magazine cover. DAZED printed a black-and-white photo of the model, who was sporting Miu Miu head-to-toe.

Wade later boasted about receiving the “first signed copy” of the magazine. Zaya had penned a sweet note that said: “To dad: I love you.” In July 2023, Zaya was featured in Miu Miu’s campaign for their fall/winter collection. She showcased an oversized corduroy jacket and matching skirt that was paired with kitten heels and a brown leather handbag. With Zaya, Dwyane and Gabrielle also seem to have become a part of the Miu Miu family. In a latest event of the brand, Zaya was not there but Dwyane and Gabrielle were in presence.
Just a few days ago, the brand introduced its latest edition of Miu Miu Select, curated by model Gigi Hadid. For the launch party at Miami’s Art Basel, several celebrities made an appearance, including Wade and Gab. Union shared a photo of her and Wade posing alongside Camila Cabello. She captioned the post, “Why meet the mark when you set it? 💅🏾 @miumiu #MiuMiu #MiuMiuSelect.” Indeed, the family is setting new benchmarks for parenting with the way they are raising and supporting Zaya.
