3x NBA champ, NBA Finals MVP, 13x All-Star — the list goes on for Dwyane Wade and now there is another addition to this list of achievements. However, this time it’s something completely outside the bounds of the basketball world. Though Wade isn’t as active in the entertainment industry as his wife Gabrielle Union, he has been an executive producer on multiple projects. And one work he was associated with has finally received recognition.
‘The Dads’ won a Daytime Emmy Award at the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards held in Los Angeles. Wade posted the celebratory photos from the event to his Instagram account. The post captioned “Two Time Emmy Winners 🏆🏆 @59thandprairie,” also featured director Lucina Fischer and co-executive producer Jon Marcus. As for Wade’s caption of being 2x Emmy Winners, it’s true this is his first Daytime Emmy Award.

But the 3x NBA champ earlier won a Sports Emmy Award in the Long Documentary category for ‘The Redeem Team’. The executive producers for the documentary were Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, while the 59th and Prairie Entertainment was also associated with the production. 59th and Prairie Entertainment is the production company through which D-Wade has served as an executive producer on multiple projects. This includes ‘The Redeem Team’, and recently recognized ‘The Dads’, and thus the company’s mention in his IG post.
Notably, multiple notable entities commented on the 3x NBA champ’s IG post, extending love and support. One of them was former NBA star Gilbert Arenas with his “🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥” comment on the post. “Let’s gooooo – the winning team!” read the movie director, Luchina Fisher’s comment. Meanwhile, Gabrielle also took to her IG story section to support her husband, sharing a photo from the event. “Congratulations baby!!!! EMMY WINNER!!!!!” she captioned her story.

The movie is available on Netflix and the description on the streaming platform states, “On a fishing trip with Matthew Shepard’s father, five disparate dads discuss their love, hopes and fears for their trans kids.” Some of the main cast members of the movie include Peter Betz, Stephen Chukumba, and Frank Gonzales.
The description of the movie makes evident why this would be an important project for Wade as a father himself. Notably, the 13 NBA All-Star has been one supportive parent to his trans daughter Zaya Wade. So much so that he had even sold his Florida home and moved to California because of anti-trans legislation in Florida.
Apart from this also, Dwyane Wade has always taken a stand for awareness about the trans community. And the recent recognition of ‘The Dads’ as a Daytime Emmy Award will most likely fuel his motivation further.
