It’s no secret that Chris Paul will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer whenever he calls it quits. But the big question remains—when will that be? The 12-time All-Star, who turns 40 in less than two months, is still going strong with the San Antonio Spurs. Yet, for the first time in his career, Paul admits that retirement is on his mind, something he never considered before.

Back in December, Paul opened up about his dilemma. “Maybe a year or two. I’m still trying to feel it out,” he shared. While he still loves the game, the real struggle comes when he gets home. “The hardest part is when I get home and I have to watch my kids’ games on the iPad or whatnot, so that’s the tug of war right now,” he explained. It’s clear that his family is pulling him in one direction while his passion for basketball keeps him grounded on the court.

Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade seems to think Paul’s decision is closer than he’s letting on. The Miami Heat legend recently dropped a major hint in his Instagram Stories, sharing a reel from the Gentleman’s Supper Club on All-Star weekend. While giving a speech, Wade subtly pointed toward CP3’s possible next move.

The clip featured Wade standing alongside Paul and Carmelo Anthony, who was recently announced as a Hall of Fame inductee. “This event allows us all to come together,” Wade said. “Because I retire first, then he (Anthony) retire…” He then paused and simply looked at Paul, letting the silence do the talking.

But Wade didn’t stop there. “Our brother gonna take his time but he’ll be over here soon,” he added, making it clear that Paul’s post-NBA journey is only a matter of time.

Whether that’s next year or the year after, Wade seems confident that CP3 will be joining him and Melo on the other side sooner rather than later.

Chris Paul eyes Dwyane Wade’s blueprint for post-NBA success

It’s no surprise that Chris Paul is already thinking about life after basketball. With a net worth of $100 million, the veteran guard has plenty of options, but he seems to have his sights set on ownership—just like Dwyane Wade. Wade, who boasts an estimated $170 million fortune, has already made waves as a minority owner in both the NBA’s Utah Jazz and the WNBA’s Chicago Sky. So when Forbes asked Paul about potential ownership, especially with the Charlotte Hornets or an expansion team, he didn’t hesitate to show interest.

“Charlotte is definitely home, but I’m open,” Paul admitted (h/t Bleacher Report). “Especially if there’s expansion or something like that, I’m definitely open. I’ve been involved with the league for too long, from every aspect of it. Just knowing the game, understanding the GMs, player relations, all of the different entities, that’s definitely one of my goals. I want to own a team.”

Growing up in North Carolina, Paul has always had a deep connection to the Hornets. But his ambitions don’t stop there. He’s also been vocal about his passion for the WNBA, a league he’s followed closely throughout his career. “Every year since I’ve been in the NBA, I’ve been to a WNBA game,” he shared.

“People are finally starting to see just how amazing their game is,” Paul said. “They have so many talented women, they play the game so smooth. Everything is really exciting and effortless, and I just think it’s going to continue to grow. And I want to be a part of it. I would love to own a WNBA team.”

So, will CP3 successfully follow Wade’s footsteps into ownership? Only time will tell.
