Opening up about personal battles is never easy—especially when you’re Dwyane Wade. Yet back in January, he took that bold step. On his own podcast, The WY Network, Wade revealed that doctors had removed 40% of his right kidney in December 2023 after discovering a cancerous tumor. The news stunned fans, but for Wade, the real challenge was deeper. “I was most afraid of being that vulnerable in front of my wife,” he told TODAY with Jenna & Friends. Still, his family stood firm beside him.

“In that process of my weakness, I found strength in my family, in my friends, in my group,” he shared on social media. Even as he faced a tough health scare, Wade stayed upbeat. “My smile has never faded!” he posted on Instagram. Yet behind that smile stood a powerful support system. His family reminded him that being vulnerable didn’t mean being weak. In fact, it pushed him to help others heal too—leading to a new project straight from the heart.

So, what did Wade do? “I decided to bring 30 men together and just get away for three days,” he shared with Hoda Kotb on Making Space. The retreat wasn’t just about relaxing—it was built on intention. “We had an amazing group of individuals put together. We had, you know, different assignments and different things we were going to do, different conversation moments we were going to have,” he said.

And honestly, how often do you see 30 men openly share their emotions like that? “It’s very rare to get 30 men in one place to be very vulnerable and open up.” Looking ahead, Wade’s not done.

When asked if he’d host another retreat, he didn’t hesitate. “I would love to.” But there’s one catch—funding. “I’m looking for some sponsors,” he admitted. As for why it matters? Wade explained it perfectly: “A lot of times… we feel that we don’t have the safe space to be weak, to be vulnerable… but I felt it in that moment. And so I shared it.”

At the end of the day, Wade’s already thinking big. He believes the next round could be just as impactful—if not more. “We put together an amazing group, and this was when I knew it was going to be amazing.”

What really went down at Dwyane Wade’s men’s retreat?

It all started with a clouded mind. Back in 2023, Dwyane Wade found himself battling some serious mental fog. Retirement didn’t exactly mean rest, and his thoughts were all over the place. That’s when a friend suggested hot yoga. Curious and desperate for clarity, he gave it a go. “It was 75 minutes I was not prepared for,” Wade admitted. The challenge wasn’t just physical—it pushed his mental limits too.

Naturally, that made it all the more addictive. “It’s a mental challenge to be in there, and I mentally have to be so locked in,” Wade shared. He didn’t sugarcoat it either. “It’s hard to be locked in at 6:30 in the morning, and doing all those things. I was like, oh, I’m looking for this challenge.” But for someone like Wade, a little discomfort was welcome—especially if it meant peace of mind. “It’s something I want to be consistent about.”

Eventually, hot yoga became his post-retirement anchor. And recently, that commitment showed up loud and clear. A viral Instagram story revealed Wade and his friends returning to the retreat, with the caption, “Morning Sade to Yoga. With @dwyanewade Men’s Wellness Retreat.” Cold plunges were also part of the mix, as Flash cooled off after a packed schedule.

To top it off, Wade dropped clips from his IG story showing him diving into a mix of healing sessions—“Incredible exercise on Forgiveness, Honesty, Grief, and Anger,” mindfulness talks, and even some golf sim fun. Sure, there wasn’t hot yoga footage this time, but trust—when it comes to Wade and wellness, that mat is never far behind.
