Does the ‘y’ come before ‘a’ or after? That has baffled fans and media for quite a while until Dwyane Wade clarified. However, many have made the mistake of misspelling his name before. Well, some still do. The Flash is well aware of it and sometimes even jokes about it too. Wade just recently revealed the real person who might have started it all. As he comforted his co-host, who made the same mistake, Wade took massive pride in the origin of this spelling blunder. After all, it became the inspiration for one of Wade’s latest endeavors.

In the newest segment of TODAY with Jenna & Friends, the Flash shared how people have been spelling his name wrong all the time. That moment even saw the host, Jenna, make a confession. Apparently, she wrote a letter and spelled his name wrong, freaking out during the episode when Wade joked about still having the letter.

“Can I be honest? I wrote you a letter and I spelled it wrong the first time. When I spelled it wrong, I felt so embarrassed because I don’t like that,” Bush said. The correct spelling is Dwyane Wade. And that’s right, it’s rare to come across this spelling.

And the 3x NBA champ absolutely appreciates this rarity. And he seems to know how that blunder happened. “My grandma might have spelled it wrong because I’m a junior. I’m named after my father, but I like it because it’s unique.”

“I don’t know another Dwyane, besides my father’s name, spelled that way, unless they were named after us,” Wade said on the show. He has had a long battle with ‘Y’, however, he doesn’t regret it. Moreover, it became an inspiration for a lot of other things for him, such as his podcast name, “The Why.”

Why did Dwyane Wade name his podcast The Why?

During the last year, the Miami Heat legend was honored with his statue outside the Kaseya Center. He also started his own podcast with an intriguing name. As you can tell already, “Why” is a play on the letter Y. “I think it was taking a look back at what I’ve dealt with my whole life,” he told PEOPLE.

Speaking of his podcast name, he said, When someone asks you, ‘Hey, what’s your why?’ It gets you to think. It gets you to pause and it’s a very powerful question when people ask you that. And so I think that’s something that I thought was very important as well.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dwyane Wade's unique name spelling a blessing or a constant source of confusion?

Have an interesting take?

Until his Hall of Fame honor, many didn’t know the correct spelling of Wade’s name. Even his own hometown made the same mistake. Wade, along with his wife Gabrielle Union and daughter Kaavia, was present for a game between the Chicago Sky and the Connecticut Sun at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. That time, they made an even more baffling mistake.

It wasn’t “y” or “a.” The arena’s jumbotron showed the name “DeWayne Wade.” He later took a hilarious dig at the name. “Hardly home but always repping #SkyTown #DeWayneWade,” the Miami Heat legend wrote on his IG post sharing images from that day. People might be getting his name wrong but it’s rare to have a unique name and Wade’s grandmother is the one to be thanked.
