Miami Heat struck gold when they formed the Big 3 partnership of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James. They were so dominant that they appeared in 4 back-to-back finals and won 2 championships. Heat’s history could have been so different because they nearly lost the chance to form the Big 3 alliance. However, with all the hype surrounding them, the trio lost the first finals and Wade shared the learnings from the game.
On his YouTube channel, Wade spoke with Bob Metelus about the current NBA Finals and what it takes to win. Metelus asked about the feeling of losing the series after the formation of Big 3. Further, Metelus also asked him about the habits that were built the following year to improve the results.
“Definitely because we had seen it now. We in the finals the following year. Now we’ve been here before, we’ve seen it. We know each other a little bit more. We know each other game a little bit more. So, our communication is so different,” Dwyane Wade said, via The Wine Down with Dwyane Wade. “Even how we approach like after wins or after losses. What we did right like the second year is all we doing. We just playing cards. We just doing this, we going on to bed at this time.”

The team bonding improved. The communication got better because of the off-the-court bonding sessions that were missing in the first year. “When you lose, your ears are open. You don’t think you know everything. Before that I’m sure we thought we knew certain things but after you lose, you like please tell us what to do type, you know energy.” Dwyane Wade also said what the main difference was after the 2011 finals loss against the Mark Cuban-owned Mavericks.
In the first year, the majority of the people used to go their separate ways after the game. It was only the next day when the team used to see each other again. But in the second year, Wade and Co. used to get together after the games and sit in a room. Thus creating the vibes and chemistry away from the game. But before coming to Miami, LeBron had teased going to the Mecca of the NBA world.
The Big Apple almost signed the Big 3
New York was very close to having the super-team of everyone’s fantasies. The New York Knicks had the opportunity to pair up Carmelo Anthony with Dwyane Wade, LeBron, and Bosh. According to Gilbert Arenas, the majority of the blame falls on the shoulders of the executive Chairman James Dolan.
“When Dwyane Wade, (Chris) Bosh, and LeBron (James) decided to team up, they was not playing in some one city. So they can all be fresh. So they were planning on going to New York together,” Arenas revealed on Gil’s Arena. “And what happened is because they didn’t tell anyone, Dolan made a mistake by paying Amar’e Stoudemire. They (James, Bosh, Wade) didn’t want to play with Amar’ Stoudemire because they had their own goddamn Big 3.”

The scenario according to Arenas was the Knicks tried to lure Mike Miller who was in this Big 3’s circle with a $60 million offer. He rejected it to join Miami for $30 million and play alongside James. Heat Culture-for-lifer, UD rejected an expensive deal and took a pay cut to accommodate James in Miami. ‘The Flash’ stayed and Bosh came along thereby constructing Miami’s super-team.
