Dwyane Wade often symbolizes a shooting guard. In fact, as per an ESPN poll, Wade was placed in the fourth position among the best shooting guards ever. So it is natural for the ex-Miami Heat icon to be an inspiration for this generation of players; in this case, for Tyrese Maxey. Appearing on ‘105.3 The Fan’, Maxey praised the 3x NBA champ as his favorite player. And Wade took no time in reciprocating the admiration.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the ex-Miami Heat icon re-shared one of his fan pages’ posts that featured Maxey’s interview praising Dwyane Wade. “And now one of my favorite players!” read the caption to Wade’s IG story. Wade was hinting towards Maxey as one of his favorite players but it may not just be because the 76ers star had praised him earlier.

Notably, Maxey played his recent match against the New York Knicks with an undisclosed illness. According to the majority of fans on social media fans, the 76ers guard is currently suffering from the flu. Although the Sixers lost to the Knicks by 104-101, Maxey did not let his illness become a cause for that. He scored 35 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists for his team. While this performance could be another factor for Wade choosing Maxey as one of his favorites, another one can be that the 76ers star did some Michael Jordan-level stuff.

Notably, Jordan had also played Game 5 of the 1997 NBA finals against the Utah Jazz while he was ill. But he still scored 38 points and 7 rebounds for the Chicago Bulls. And Dwyane Wade had once stated Michael Jordan to be someone who captured his imagination and fueled his aspirations. So it is understandable for him to develop a preference for a player who reflects his icon’s image. And Maxey now choosing Wade as his icon makes it a circle of sorts.

“He was definitely my favorite player, though, for sure. He was my favorite player. The way he played the game was amazing to me… I had Dwayne Wade jersey in zero six,” the Philadelphia 76ers point guard said. Maxey also recollected one instance when the Miami Heat was in the playoffs and he went for the watch party.

“So games three and four were in Miami… if I remember correctly… And I went to the watch party at the American Airlines, and I had on Dwayne Wade jersey at the watch party at the outside. Right there in front of it…” he said. Tyrese Maxey remembers this as one of his fondest memories while terming Dwyane Wade to be not just his favorite player but a great mentor to him, and a great person as well.
