Fans want a lot of former NBA players to take up the job of coaching in the NBA these days. A few favorites have been JJ Redick, Rajon Rondo, and at times Dwyane Wade. The Miami Heat icon has shown a lot of interest in being an owner, but when it comes to coaching, there is a huge question mark. Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, and many more are in desperate need of a good coach and a mentor. However, as per the 3x NBA champion, he is not the one they should be targeting.
During his appearance today at the Met Gala with his wife Gabrielle Union, Wade was questioned about his interest in coaching an NBA team. The 42-year-old said, “If I could coach right now, I wouldn’t, I would not. I would not coach right now at all,” which is surprising, considering the leadership he showcased during his Miami Heat days.
Wade did not just show his disinterest in coaching, he also seemed to be distancing himself from basketball. When asked if he misses playing basketball, Wade replied, “I don’t miss it. I gave everything to it. I don’t miss it, but I enjoy this time of the year. This is the time where you see who’s going to put themselves in the conversation. It’s not about you know, who’s a better basketball player, but it’s about what conversation you want to be when your career is over.”

Wade could be a great coach in the NBA, especially looking at the guidance he gave to Donovan Mitchell in 2021. That would be the perfect case to showcase his potential to be a head coach.
How did Dwyane Wade advise Donovan Mitchell from the sideline during the 2021 playoffs?
The Utah Jazz faced the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 Western Conference Semi-Finals. In Game 1, Donovan Mitchell was finding it hard to get some buckets in the first half. He had just 13 points in the first two quarters. Thankfully, Wade was in attendance at that game, and he went on to advise the young star guard around halftime.

Mitchell scored 32 points in the second half, to finish with 45 points in Game 1. He also led the Jazz to a win. In the postgame interview, Mitchell mentioned, “It’s great to have someone that I call my brother sitting courtside…just trying to help me out and find ways to improve and not just for myself but finding ways with the team...I’m grateful that he’s able to do that, not a lot of guys do that, especially in live-action in a playoff game.” So, Wade might be a great coach after all!
