The heated exchanges between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics’ stars in the early 2010s have found a whole new one-on-one dynamic. Fans of the two teams would remember that these two Eastern Conference powerhouses didn’t just compete—they straight-up didn’t like each other. On one side, you had Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Rajon Rondo. On the other, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. The animosity between them was real, but how do those rivalries look today?

As it turns out, not all wounds have healed, even after all these years. While Wade and Udonis Haslem were teammates for over a decade, their relationships with former Celtics rivals have taken very different paths. Wade recently opened up about those heated matchups during an episode of Underground Lounge, making it clear that once the jerseys came off permanently, things haven’t been as serious as they once seemed.

“When you put that other jersey on. Yeah, we competitors. We gonna compete… Gonna talk… But when the jersey come off, man, like, KG, I’ll be watching you. Paul Pierce… Yeah, what’s good? Now we gonna talk out… Because we had so many battles, the Celtics and the Heat. But ultimately, we see each other in LA all the time,” Wade shared.

It’s funny how life works. The same guys who were going at each other on the court are now bumping into each other in everyday life. Wade even pointed out how he and Pierce cross paths in the most unexpected ways. “Our kids, we doing trick or treat at the same time. Me and Paul, we supposed to have some beef, right?… It’s trick or treat… We ain’t got time to beef… I’m too grown for that,” he said on The Underground Lounge.

But while Dwyane Wade has let go of the past, Haslem still has some unfinished business. The Heat veteran has famously feuded with both Garnett and Pierce. And unlike The Flash, he hasn’t been able to completely bury the hatchet.

During a recent episode of the Out the Mud podcast, former Celtics guard Tony Allen asked Haslem where things stand with his old rivals. Haslem admitted that while he and KG have reached common ground, things with Pierce? Not so much.

“My beef ain’t even with KG, ’cause he said something the other day and I was like you know what? Me and KG cool. Paul, we gonna have to figure that out,” Haslem said. And the former Miami Heat star has every reason to feel the way he does.

Paul Pierce attacked Udonis Haslem even on his special achievement

Some things are just off-limits on the basketball court, whether it’s a neighborhood pickup game or an NBA showdown. At least, that’s how Udonis Haslem sees it. And according to him, Paul Pierce had a habit of crossing that line. But what really made things personal?

Haslem says it wasn’t just their on-court clashes—it was Pierce’s reaction when the Miami Heat honored him by retiring his jersey. Instead of showing respect, Pierce took to Instagram and threw shade, writing, “This one given bro, just saying.” Talk about a cold response.

Sure, Haslem’s numbers alone don’t scream jersey retirement, but his 20 years with the Heat, his leadership, and his role in shaping Heat Culture made him an exception. So there’s no doubt that an attack on such a moment would’ve felt insulting.

Now, it has been years since those Celtics-Heat wars, but clearly, not every rivalry fades with time. Dwyane Wade may be over it, but for Haslem and Pierce, it looks like there’s still some tension left to sort out.
