Is Wade's Finals MVP more statue-worthy than LeBron's iconic alley-oop? Let's hear your thoughts!

I really should be sitting here wondering when that statue is going up outside of American Airlines Arena (now Kaseya Center).” During Dwyane Wade‘s jersey retirement ceremony, LeBron James awaited the statue announcement. That was in 2020, and now cut to 2024, ‘The Flash’ will receive the honor of the lifetime. With the ceremony happening in October, the only question remains now: What could be the iconic pose?

Debating it during their ‘NBA Today’ show, host Malika Andrews had a suggestion. “This one though,” even analyst Chiney Ogwumike agreed, “that’s the one.” Andrews continued to explain her selection via ESPN. “I know it was a lob, but it’s the moment in time.” They were talking about the photo from a 2010 game when the Big 3 era of Miami was heating up. James was soaring through the air for a one-hand slam and Wade was celebrating with his arms out wide before the ball made it to the basket.

Recently, King James too appreciated his long-time running mate on social media. Sharing the statue announcement from the Miami Heat, “🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾.” Speaking about the iconic moment, Dwyane Wade once candidly revealed that he had never seen the dunk before on NBA TV.

Because it was a fast break, the Heat #3 had to figure out how to pass the ball to LeBron James. “And so I took a quick peek, made sure it was him and not someone else, and I threw it. A bounce pass. The fundamentals of the game led to one of the most iconic moments.” 14 years later it’s celebrated even today, not just in the NBA.

Orlando Magic duo, Cole Anthony and Jalen Suggs made sure to give the fans a highlight moment. Apart from the 19-point victory, the recreation of the dunk was special, as Suggs successfully created the lob pass and Anthony finished with his one-hand dunk. Similarly, last year, the Philadelphia Eagles duo recreated the photo.

AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith led their team to a victory by scoring multiple touchdowns. During the celebration of Smith’s TD, Brown made the alley-oop pass but Smith could not make the dunk. However, they were successful in the eyes of King James. who shared it on his IG story and tagged Dwyane Wade.

Although James seemed to enjoy the gesture, he had three different poses in mind during Wade’s jersey retirement ceremony, suggesting or perhaps hinting at Dwyane Wade about his choices. James asked if it would be the ‘Flash Dunk’ from the 2006 NBA Finals. Or when the franchise points leader stood on the scorer’s table and said this is my house after hitting a game-winner. Not to forget the pregame ritual, when Wade used to pull his head up through the rim.

Earlier in January, President Pat Riley announced the celebration of Dwyane Wade by building a statue. The event will be a two-day event on the 27th and 28th of October. The Bronze statue will be unveiled first on the 27th and the ceremony will be held the next night during the game against the Pistons.
