“I need the same influence in this city as D Wade.” Tyler Herro made it clear who he looks up to as a Miami Heat Guard when it comes to building a legacy. And to receive the praise from the very same Dwyane Wade? Well, not many have the luck of getting a shoutout from their heroes. Let’s just say Herro made an exception of himself in this regard. Yep, the 3x NBA champ didn’t hold back on Tyler’s recent All-Star achievement.

If you are tuned in to the All-Star weekend, you’d know Tyler Herro won the 3-point contest of the 2025 event. Sharing a post that mentioned the update in his IG story, Wade wrote, “Yes sir 14…” A shoutout to not just Boy Wonder but his jersey number too.

But why is this win so special? Well, for one part, the Heat guard squashed Damian Lillard’s aspirations for a three-peat at the All-Star contest.

Lillard won back-to-back Three-Point Contests on All-Star weekends in 2023 and 2024. Had he won this year too, he would’ve leveled Larry Bird and Craig Hodges. The only two stars to three-peat at the three-point contest. But Lillard’s 18 points fell one short of Herro’s score that would’ve secured him the spot in the three-person final.

“I got lucky… I thought Buddy was going to run off the last five. It was a great competition,” Herro later said. While this is clearly a special moment for the Heat guard, he did something that might’ve made his win special for many Kobe Bryant fans. Herro was rocking Kobe 6 PE during his 3-Point Contest. Released in 2010, the sneakers are based on Black Mamba’s preference for lightweight and responsive footwear.

A nod to one NBA legend’s legacy and a shoutout from the other: Herro seems to be inching closer to fulfilling his promise to D-Wade.

Filling the shoes of a franchise legend is never easy. When D-Wade retired after the 2018-19 season, it wasn’t just the end of an era—it left a void that Miami Heat fans still feel today. The Flash wasn’t just a three-time NBA champion, but the face of the franchise. But in 2019, the Heat took a chance on another promising two-way guard, Tyler Herro, hoping he could bring some of that same magic.

Now in his sixth season, Herro isn’t just aiming for a championship—he wants to leave a legacy that Miami fans will remember. It’s a bold ambition, but Herro knows what he’s up against. “All I see is, I’m talking about from the wealthiest person in the city to the least wealthy. They all got a D Wade jersey,” he told Udonis Haslem on The OGs podcast.

“I need the same influence in this city as D Wade. Obviously, not as much because of how much he’s done. And this is Wade County at the end of the day,” Herro said. However, what Tyler Herro desires is still a high bar to clear, but he isn’t backing down because this wasn’t just talk—the Heat guard had been thinking about this since day one.

“I used to walk around when I was 19, 20 in Miami. I’m like, bro, I want to make sure everyone in this city has a Herro jersey by the time it’s done,” Boy Wonder shared on The OGs podcast. Although he still has a long way to go, the 3-point contest win should fuel the motivation to some extent.
