Is Dwyane Wade right in saying WNBA players outshine NBA stars in fashion?

Voted as the most stylish man of the year twice, yet that was not it for Dwyane Wade. Both in 2022 and 2023, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took home the title by GQ based on votes. And in 2024, it was for Malik Monk to grab. However, if the GQ were to consider the whole basketball fraternity right now, Wade’s votes wouldn’t be for either. Nothing against them though.

During his latest interview with Revole, Wade was asked to name “best-dressed basketball players of all time,” according to him. It was all WNBA athletes topping the list for their incredible tunnel looks. “My favorite tunnel walks is Cameron Brink from the LA Sparks, Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky… And then from a vet, I really love what Skylar Diggins-Smith did this year. Put together so many different styles, so many different flavors. She showed the many facets of herself in her fashion,” Wade said.

However, in Dwyane Wade’s defense, the answer came amid the WNBA finals, as mentioned by him.

Moreover, the NBA men’s tunnel walk has been broadcast for years, establishing their signature. But it is relatively new for the W and Cameron Brink are all here for it, recognizing the public interest that has been flowing in, directly influencing the players’ fashion game. “Because the media has put the effort into covering us,” she told Harper’s Bazzar.

Now, fans can follow these athletes beyond the court, gaining a more personal glimpse of their lives—and fashion. The tunnel itself is no longer just a link between the locker room and the arena. It’s a place for players to make a statement, to reveal a bit of who they are before they even hit the court. And the styles they’re bringing are as varied as the athletes themselves.

Imagine Arike Ogunbowale’s bold, graphic streetwear, Alyssa Thomas’s polished Nike ensembles, or Dijonai Carrington’s fierce, party-ready looks. In these moments, individuality shines—a refreshing contrast to the uniformity of game-day jerseys. And here’s where things get even more exciting—fashion brands are watching too.

Notably, WNBA tunnel walks have not only caught the fans’ eyes, but major labels like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Adidas, and Puma are taking notice. Sports networks now highlight these pre-game struts, and just recently, stars like Carrington, Brink, Candace Parker, Kelsey Plum, and Skylar Diggins-Smith were cast in Kim Kardashian’s latest Skims campaign. Then while Brink received her first Paris fashion week invite with Balenciaga, Reese dropped by the VS fashion show.

Makes it clear why D-Wade would be in awe of these stars’ fashion sense.

Dwyane Wade has himself been a fashion inspiration in the league

Now, players like Allen Iverson and Dennis Rodman may have been the game changers in terms of fashion sense in the NBA, but Wade has himself been one of the most fashion-forward NBA athletes. With his stylist, Calyann Barnett, by his side, Wade’s looks had everyone talking. Remember his shrunken black blazers paired with a sweater that hinted at his inner nerd?

Or maybe his bolder choices, like the bare-chested white blazer or that eye-catching Burberry with its Bengal stripes. And let’s not forget the grandma sweater that blew up on social media—who else could make that work so effortlessly? “Fashion became a big way for us, as athletes, to express ourselves,” Wade once shared with CR Fashion Book. And he meant it.

For Wade, fashion wasn’t just about looking good—it was about breaking the mold and showing his personality beyond the court. From bold blazers to cozy knits, Wade’s fashion sense made him more than just a winning athlete. He was, and still is, a true style inspiration in the league. No wonder his pick in fashion sense is elite, as reflected in his aforementioned conversation with REVOLVE.
