The Marquette blood runs deep in Dwyane Wade. After donating $3 million earlier this year, Wade now helped raise funds for his alma mater. The annual initiative witnessed a series of activities this year as well over the past weekend. The 3x NBA champ, proud and elated, took to his official Instagram account to share the success.

“Another year in the books! As a @MarquetteU alumnus, I stand committed in continually supporting the Milwaukee community and making a positive impact on the education of our youth!” D-Wade wrote sharing snaps of the Tragil-Wade Johnson Summer Reading program. As per the post, the team proved successful in raising sufficient funds for the cause.

Notably, the series of events also included Wade vs Diener round 2. The first time event occurred in July 2023, where the two stars competed against each other across numerous activities. The core purpose of the event is to raise money for the local youth program, in ensuring literacy to all, through structured teaching of reading.

Named after Dwyane Wade’s sister, the summer reading program is funded by Wade’s World Foundation. It’s held during the weeks of June 17-21, June 24-28, and July 8-12, for kids between 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, needing extra reading help. While the 13x All Star shows an active involvement for the cause, his contribution to Marquette goes beyond this.

Dwyane Wade’s wishes to give back

As mentioned above, the 3x NBA champ committed $3 million to the university. As per an article by Marquette Today, the amount will focus on three areas at Marquette. One of which is the recently held Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program. Meanwhile, the other two areas of focus will include establishing Wade Scholars, and lastly, a new men’s basketball practice facility.

The 13x All Star had spotlighted the institute as the architect of the life he has now. “It means a great deal to me and my family to be able to give back to take the university to the next level… My hope is to continue to transform lives through higher education,” he added. Dwyane Wade spent three years in Marquette but could not play during his first year because of low grades.

Wade made his college basketball debut in season 2001-02, after he raised his grades to NCAA’s academic eligibility requirement. During his two seasons with Marquette Golden Eagles, he averaged 19.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. What came next for D-Wade was being drafted into the NBA.

The ex-Miami Heat star is now all in to help provide higher education opportunities. When he first initiated the literacy program back in 2014, he only wished for it to be continued for years by the students now being impacted. Staunch on the vision, D-Wade continues to give.
