Dwyane Wade spent 16 years dominating the NBA, establishing himself as one of the greatest shooting guards of all time. Yet, despite whatever he may have achieved, one might just have evaded him — something his longtime friend and former teammate LeBron James just accomplished. And according to the Hall of Famer, it is nothing short of a dream come true.
The 3-time champion took to his Instagram to reshare a heartwarming moment. It was a video of King James and his son, Bronny, posing in their Lakers jersey — LeBron with his iconic #23 and the 19-year-old with his #9. “The Hoopers Dream,” Wade captioned as the father-son duo prepared for the upcoming season, just weeks away.
A basketball dad himself, Wade never really got the chance to share the court with his son. Zaire, his eldest, was only in his senior year of high school when the Miami Heat star announced his retirement in 2019, after a near two-decade run. And when Zaire did skip college and went pro the next year, the G-League was as far as he stepped into the NBA. But at the end of the day, dream to share a court or not, Wade wants to help his kids as and where they need.

“I try to meet them where they’re at, and I don’t try to always bring them to where I want them to be,” he told People in 2021. The younger Wade is now treading well in the ASEAN Basketball League, with the 3x champion to guide every step of the way. So while he shines there, Wade couldn’t be happier for his friend’s big moment at home.
As the LA Lakers drafted Bronny in July this year, he became the first player in NBA history to share the court with his father. It was indeed a dream come true for LeBron who wished to play alongside his sons before he exited the court. But Bronny’s path wasn’t without its challenges. A heart condition, poor stats, a host of criticism. But Wade, with a closer seat to the young talent’s journey, always ensured to stand by him.

Dwyane Wade on Bronny’s big moment
“We’ve pushed each other and helped each other’s career[s] go up another level and another notch. So he’s been great for me, and I’ve been great for him,” D-Wade said of his friendship with LeBron. Through 2003 draft class, the Miami Heat championships, and the eventual competition, nothing has come the way of the two’s dynamic. And it has well extended off the court, not sparing their sons either; who shared the court often.
So when Bronny made the draft, Wade couldn’t help but share his excitement aloud. He took to social media, calling it “One of the dopest moments in our sport!”

And when Bronny faced criticism later for declaring despite his less-than-stellar college stats, Wade stood up. He made it known that the 19-year-old had “put in enough work to get drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers,” and that he deserved his place with the team. The Miami Heat star would even share a glimpse of Bronny’s routine to corroborate.
“They haven’t seen Bronny James get up at 5:00 in the morning to go live his dream,” Wade said, emphasizing the dedication behind the scenes. Regardless of the noise, the 13-time All-Star believes it to be one of the greatest moments in NBA history. “I love it. It’s history,” Wade concluded.
