Dwyane Wade has accomplished everything that he set out to. After having a Hall of Fame career in the NBA, the Miami Heat legend is off to conquer the media and business world. Recently he launched his own podcast The Why with Dwyane Wade and that’s just the tip of the iceberg for his body of work. When the 3x NBA champion was asked if he reflects on his journey and how he sees his growth, he took a page out of Snoop Dogg’s life to make his point.

Wade was recently in conversation with BET where he was asked about what the NBA career taught him so he could be so successful in the world of media and business. The NBA veteran said, “Most of the time when you’re trying to accomplish something it will be lonely. There are a lot of times when you have support around you, your loved ones around you but when they leave it’s all on you.” Although he might’ve been alone on this journey for some time, he had the perfect source of inspiration in Uncle Snoop. Wade said, “When I sit back and look at my career and everything that I have accomplished, I’m proud of myself. Like Snoop [Dogg] said, “I want to thank me.” I’m proud that I didn’t give up on myself.” Snoop said the iconic line after he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Of all the things, Wade is most proud of the fact that even when he was turned down, repeatedly, he never let that affect him mentally. He said, “I’m proud that I didn’t give into what’s easy to give into, and that I continue to keep going every day, no matter how hard it is. I went through so many injuries and I was told no so many times. I’m just proud that I didn’t give up.”

Kobe was one of Wade’s favorite athletes of all time and he was inspired by the Black Mamba on the court. But, even after retirement, Kobe continued to pave the way for other talented individuals like Wade to follow in his footsteps. “I remember when Kobe won his Oscar. It showed me and it told me if you get behind something you’re really passionate about, that people can feel your heartbeat through it, then great things can happen obviously you know through their basketball”, he said.
