Is Stephen Curry a better guard than Allen Iverson? Both might not have been physically gifted but the two always had an explosive game instilling fear in their opponents. Both are great on their own, but it also depends on the circumstances around them. AI never had the team that Curry has by his side. This Olympics was one such example of Curry’s heroics that even the Gil’s Arena squad, who previously felt the Warriors star was behind Iverson, had to revisit the debate. Gilbert Arenas even sought some help from Dwyane Wade and Andre Iguodala.
Arenas mentioned that both Wade and Iguodala were hesitant to pick a side when asked about the two. Explaining the two legends’ opinion, Arenas noted that while Iverson’s speed and quickness presented a challenge, Curry’s exceptional shooting range and accuracy posed a different kind of difficulty.
Despite their differences, both were incredibly difficult to guard. “They (Wade and Iguodala) didn’t want to pick a side but they said they were both unguardable at what they did,” Agent Zero said on the Gil’s Arena podcast. “I wouldn’t want to guard none of them. They were both a headache and they both do separate things. As I said, they’re both dominant at two different things.”

Not only Arenas’ squad but also Curry’s gold medal game heroics had basketball enthusiasts everywhere reconsider their opinions. Curry scored the second-most points ever (for USA) in a game at the Olympics, with 36 points in the semifinals and then his four consecutive 3-pointers helped Team USA secure a victory over France.
Cheers for the 4X NBA champ have been as loud as the criticism he faced last year. Not to mention the drama with Magic Johnson regarding the GOAT PG debate, which was followed by Michael Jordan dismissing Curry’s case as the best point guard completely. However, when the Philadelphia 76ers legend was asked about Curry, he praised the Warriors star.
Allen Iverson compares Stephen Curry to Michael Jordan
As an MJ fan, Iverson is thrilled to see how Curry has changed the course of the game. “He’s incredible, he’s different, he’s something we have never seen. It’s crazy to me, like just me being the biggest Michael Jordan fan, to see somebody come around like this,” Iverson said.

Iverson was equally tough during his era. After Jordan and Kobe Bryant, AI was the one who had the best perimeter-scoring abilities. The 5’11 guard used this speed to the fullest, something that both Wade and Iguodala experienced. AI’s stellar career boasting 4 scoring titles tells a lot about how dominant he was. But he believes that the Golden State Warriors star is unlike anyone the league has seen before. We couldn’t agree more.
