Backing Angel Reese on her “Champs Only” remark already has Dwyane Wade established as one supportive team owner. Notably, the former Miami Heat star is a stakeholder in Chicago Sky and keeps an active involvement with team updates. The most recent instance of this came at the matchup between Sky and Connecticut Sun.

Dwyane Wade, along with his wife Gabrielle Union Wade and daughter Kaavia Wade, reached Wintrust Arena to support Sky in their home opener. The 3x NBA champ re-shared a post by Chicago Sky and wrote, “Went from courting to court side 😎❤️.” The post by the official X account of Sky included photos of Wade and Union, captioned, “@DwyaneWade and @itsgabrielleuare in the building!” In a different post, D-Wade called the instance “a family affair ❤️.”

Earlier, WNBA journalist from Chicago Sun-Times, Annie Costabile, shared a video featuring Wade and Union on the court ahead of the start of the game. “Sky minority owner, Dwyane Wade in the building for tonight’s game with wife Gabrielle Union, mother Jolinda and daughter Kaavia,” read the post.

However, the support from the Wades could not ensure a victory for the Chicago Sky. The Connecticut Sun beat the Sky 82-86, securing themselves a 5-game winning streak. However, the game’s high score came from Sky’s Marina Mabrey with 23 points. So it’s unlikely that Wade would be disappointed with his team, especially considering the above-mentioned kind of support he has for his team.

The time Dwyane Wade supported Angel Reese in her alleged dig at Caitlin Clark

It all started with the NBA Finals promo featuring Wade, Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and several other notable appearances. There was a moment in the video where Queen Latifah said, “Tonight we honor basketball’s Kings and Queens”. The shot subsequently went on to Reese and Cardoso, where Reese replied, “Champs only”. This resulted in a controversy, as the netizens believed this to be a shot at Clark.

Notably, both WNBA rookies — Reese and Cardoso — have won NCAA championships during their college basketball careers. But despite high expectations this year, Clark failed to secure this achievement to her name. Reese faced a significant amount of criticism for allegedly being jealous of all the attention Clark was getting. Amid all of this, the official X account of Chicago Sky re-shared the NBA’s post featuring the finals promo.

“Wait for it…,” wrote the Sky, hinting Reese will be a WNBA champ as well with the team. Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade re-shared his team’s post with a caption, “It was only right”. A majority section of the netizens perceived this as the 3x NBA champ backing Reese in her claims against Clark. As for the post by Sky, the recent loss against the Sun makes it clear they have a long way to go before perceiving themselves as WNBA champs.
