Dwyane Wade and Tracy McGrady at the US Open—what's more important than tennis for these legends?

The NBA offseason is in full swing with numerous people from the community finding time to do things they love. The two sports NBA stars love the most outside the bounds of the basketball court are Tennis and Golf. Especially considering how often the legends from the league indulge in watching the former and playing the latter. But there is not an ounce of doubt that hoopers will always lean towards basketball as their top-most priority. Dwyane Wade and Tracy McGrady’s appearance at the US Open is the most recent proof of it.

During the event, the two NBA legends encountered two other former NBA stars — Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard. Yahoo Sports captured the moment, later re-shared by courtsidebuzzig in an IG post. Dwyane Wade further shared the post to his IG story captioning it “Hoop talk!!!” It’s clear one cannot keep a group of NBA players from discussing ball, even if that means a minor interruption in the event of the moment.

However, no fan should consider this as a lack of interest in the US Open from any angle. As mentioned earlier, tennis is one of the most revered games for NBA stars. The number of players in attendance at the 2024 US Open itself will further clarify this notion. Apart from the aforementioned 4 players, multiple other NBA entities registered their presence at the event in earlier days.

Among the stars to be spotted on the blue carpet at the US Open on Tuesday were Utah Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson and New York Knicks’ Miles McBride. And to register an even earlier appearance at the event was New York great Carmelo Anthony. If this isn’t enough proof, The Flash trying all he can to grasp the basics of tennis should be it.

Have an interesting take?

An IG video shared by tennischannel back in 2022 featured the former Miami Heat star practicing his backhand. While the comments section was not very kind to the efforts of the 3x NBA champ, some big names appreciating and offering help from the tennis community was a relief. “Great to see- too much of an open stance though for no reason at all,” tennis legend Martina Navratilova wrote on X.

Yet another tennis star to cheer for Wade — “Hell yeah @dwyanewade” — was Frances Tiafoe, who may as well win his first US Open championship this year. In fact, it’s guaranteed that in both the men’s singles category and women’s singles category, we will be having a first-time US Open winner this year. While Jannik Sinner is the World No.1 and the defending Australian Open champion, Flushing Meadows offers a different perspective.

The top-seeded Italian defeated Medvedev in four sets, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, to book his spot in the Semis. With this win, the 23-year-old has reached the semifinals of four major hard-court tournaments this year. The Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami, and now, the U.S. Open. How impressive is that? Well, since 1990, only one player younger than Sinner, Rafael Nadal at 22, has achieved this feat.
