Could Dwight Howard's dance moves lead to a Lakers comeback? What do you think?

It’s not every day you see a 6-foot-10 former NBA powerhouse gliding across a ballroom floor, but Dwight Howard is doing just that. Paired with the much smaller Daniella Karagach on Dancing With The Stars, Howard’s massive frame doesn’t stop him from bringing style to each step. And it’s not just for show—the NBA legend has taken his dance floor skills to his former teammate and 3x NBA champ, JaVale McGee, sparking a frenzy among fans.

Dwight Howard recently shared a video on Instagram of his attempt to pass on his new skills to McGee. In the clip, the Georgia native is seen playfully coaching McGee, and it’s clear they’re having a blast. Howard’s caption read, “@javalemcgee got some heat coming for his show. 🕺🏾🔥 and you know I had to show him some of the dance moves 😂💪🏾.”

For Lakers fans, it’s a flashback to 2020, a season etched in memory. During that intense bubble season, both Howard and McGee played pivotal roles. Howard brought in 18.9 minutes per game, averaging 7.5 points and 7.3 rebounds, while McGee contributed 16.6 minutes, averaging 6.6 points and 5.7 rebounds. Though not the top scorers, their presence under the basket and defensive energy helped secure the Lakers’ championship win.

Now, as these two reunite in an unexpected setting, fans are excitedly speculating. Some are even calling for an LA comeback for Howard, imagining what it would be like to see the two back in purple and gold.

Fans beg for Lakers to “send the contracts” after Howard and McGee’s viral dance video

When Dwight Howard’s dance video hit the internet, fans couldn’t help but call for a Lakers reunion. One fan even commented, “@lakers send the contracts!” while another chimed in with a heartfelt, “The former Laker bros 💛.” Though the loyalists want to see them back in the Los Angeles franchise once again, it won’t be possible.

But, interestingly, Howard and McGee didn’t want to leave the club. Howard often jokingly took jabs at the Lakers for releasing him. And a fan highlighted their unexpected exit from the league as disrespect: “Love both these guys. They never got the respect I felt they deserved.”

In August, Howard opened up about his rocky 2022 experience, holding nothing back. “At that time, I was fed up with all the cr*p and the lies,” he shared. He felt drained and ready for a change, explaining, “I’d rather just go somewhere and hoop ’cause it’s just too many lies.”

Meanwhile, JaVale McGee, free agent, is determined to stay on the court. When NBC Sports California asked him on Friday night about his plans, McGee was clear: “Just to play basketball. Keep focusing, keep working.” For McGee, retirement isn’t even on the table – he’s got his eyes fixed on the game and the grind ahead.

But it wasn’t just the fans who reacted; fellow players noticed, too. McGee himself replied to Howard’s post with a big “My brotha!” Meanwhile, former hoops star DeAndre Bray hyped up their moves, commenting, “Foot work 🤞🏾😅.” Another fan echoed the praise, saying, “There are no limits with you! Star basketball player to dancing with the stars! You killing it Howard! #DHTD 😂.”

However, Howard’s dance moves comes from hard work. “Hard work, intensity, but also fun, but enjoying this whole journey,” he shared after a episode of the show. The secret? Daily practice. “She gives me homework. I do my homework,” Howard added in a interview. Indeed, he has started creating his own steps when he misses a step during the performance and adds it so flawlessly that the judges don’t even notice.

But before showing off his moves in DWTS, the 8x All-Star was a force to reckon with on the court as well. In his 18-year career, he averaged 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, earning 3 DPOY, 5 All-Defensive team selections. He even led the league in total rebounds five times and was a blocks champion twice.

On the other hand, his dance partner Daniella Karagach kept an eye on his steps as she commented, “I SEE YOU”. Daniella recently showed one of their routines in her IG story, where Howard was doing a wrist exercise that can improve his “wrist mobility” for the lifts in their choreography. The duo will be performing an Argentine Tango inspired by James Hinchliffe and Sharna Burgess’ dance in season 23 for their next showcase.

However, many fans were left in awe of Howard’s moves, with one saying, “WAYyyyyyyyy good!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌❤❤❤❤❤.” While another fan went on to announce Howard as “Best Guest Ever!”

And to add to the excitement, the DWTS duo’s next performance will celebrate a major milestone: the 500th episode of Dancing With the Stars. For fans of both dance and basketball, it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable night.
