A bitter relationship came to an emotional end after 13 years. We are talking about Dwight Howard being the 13th inductee into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame. But not every decade-old bitterness in the former champion’s life is close to being mended. The issues with ex-Royce Reed have been all over the internet for the past few months. Where she called out D12 for being an absent father. However, the 3x DPOY’s recent revelation demonstrates otherwise.
“I’ve been a stay at home dad, I love it. It’s so much fun. Even during spring break, like I literally want to be with my kids all day.” On the recent episode of Orlando Magic Pod Squad, Dwight Howard spoke about being in love with his involvement in kids’ lives. “But no, just coaching my kids, like I coach my son’s basketball team. Every day watching my daughter do the volleyball thing and her in school and stuff like that is just awesome to be around and just seeing them grow.”
The revelation during his conversation with Dante Marchitelli and George Galante shines a different light than what Royce Reed had shared. She hinted several times at the tension between the former champion and the 17-year-old son. Braylon Howard was born in 2007 to former Orlando Magic cheerleader Royce Reed. Previously, Reed hinted at her son not being interested in going on the DWTS set because of Dwight Howard.

“He was mad because I pushed him to go on Dancing with Stars. I said no go for the experience…I’m like….go for the experience, not for him and he had a good time because he spent it with his siblings.” Let’s not forget that the son himself previously called out his father for his absent behavior, which the 3x DPOY categorically denied. Reportedly, the former couple is in a legal battle, as the former Magic cheerleader confirmed Dwight Howard had allegedly issued a cease and desist order

Dwight Howard wants to set the right example for his kids
Being part of the NBA for 18 seasons, there are considerable moments that the former champion missed with his kids. Apart from Braylon, the former Lakers star has 4 other kids from 4 different partners. His two daughters, Layla and Jayde, were both born in 2010 to different mothers. Layla is the daughter of Tiffany Render, while Jayde was born to Hope Alexa, a fitness model from Vancouver, Canada.

In 2013, the next two sons were also born in the same year with different partners. Christine Vest gave birth to Dwight III, aka Trey Howard. David, meanwhile, was born to Melissa Rios, a real estate agent who tragically passed away in 2020 due to an epileptic seizure. “Yeah, I don’t regret my kids. I regret how I decided to go about having my children. What I mean is, I have five kids by five women. That’s not really the right example to show for my daughters or my sons.”
