Did Dwight Howard's crystal really help him achieve that 30-30 game, or is it just superstition?

Dwight Howard details the most bizarre story about the mysterious crystals he found in New York and the live experience of the famed movie ‘Uncut Gems’ which featured Kevin Garnett and Adam Sandler. Many still remember Howard making history in 2018 when he had a 30-30 game for the Hornets, defeating Brooklyn. Well, there’s a story behind it.

When asked about his motivation, ‘D-12’ spoke about mysterious crystals. As Howard recalled, he got those while visiting a crystal store during a random stroll in New York. So, the lady at the store predicted that the veteran would have a great day if he kept those crystals close to him.

“It was crazy. So, she gave me this crystal she say all right tomorrow something’s crazy going to happen like it’s going to be real crazy where you know everything is going to be really bad and then it’s going to flip and be really good tomorrow’s going to be a really good day for you,” Howard said on his podcast, Above The Rim.

He further added, “He said now take this crystal that I give you go home at night put it in your window and let it get some energy from the Moon and then meditate with it in the morning like meditate on how you want your game to go or whatever.”

The store owner gave him a crystal and asked him to keep it on a window to absorb energy, and later meditate with it and manifest his wish. Howard recounted that he did exactly what he was told. While the first half didn’t go well, he ended up performing his best in the second half.

Dwight Howard became the 8th player to achieve this major feat

While he agreed that the first half wasn’t good as he was upset with a fan booing at him, Howard was able to recover from that in the second half. Leading the Hornets to a 111-105 victory over Brooklyn, Howard dropped 32 points and 30-rebound. He became the first player to achieve this feat after Kevin Love in 2010 and the 8th player in the NBA.

However, it’s not just the crystals, there was another thing that boosted Howard’s confidence. In the postgame interview, the veteran shared that apparently, a certain text boosted his morale. “I just thought that my energy and effort wasn’t where it needed to be for our team to be successful. Got a text at halftime from somebody and it kind of got me motivated and gave me some extra energy,” Howard said on the podcast.

‘D-12’ is also the first player after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to score up a 30-30 game against the Nets. Abdul-Jabbar scored 37 points and 30 rebounds in 1978 in a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets.

Howard spent the 2017-2018 season with the Charlotte Hornets. However, his best was probably in this particular game. Whether it’s the magic of the crystals or just a simple push in his confidence, the champ certainly broke records!
