When you’re the great Shaquille O’Neal, you are bound to have a laundry list of frenemies. Someone he has been not-so-seriously feuding with for a decade might be returning to the NBA, though. If he’s back, the NBA on TNT analyst will have more opportunities to poke fun at his nemesis, who dared to lay a claim on his Superman image. Maybe that’s why Shaq was happy to share an update on this NBA pro potentially coming to the Golden State Warriors.

Big Diesel shared a little clip on Instagram that has his followers and NBA fans pumped. It adds to the speculation about the other Superman, Dwight Howard’s possible return to the league. Does Shaq want it to happen or is he hinting at something?

Shaquille O’Neal is waiting for Dwight Howard’s return

While most of us have mixed feelings about a Henry Cavill-less Superman movie returning, Shaquille O’Neal is anticipating another kind of Superman’s return. The NBA rumor circuit is currently going wild that Dwight Howard might be potentially returning to the league after a season away. He’s apparently in talks with the Warriors management, but it’s still unconfirmed.

It didn’t matter to O’Neal, who shared a clip of Howard preparing for a potential domestic return on his Instagram Stories. The original Instagram post read, “Dwight Howard’s getting ready for his workout with the Warriors.” 

The Reel carried the original user’s comment, “On the grind getting the champ @dwighthoward ready for his big week coming up.” The 37-year-old played with the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan in 2022 after 18 NBA seasons. Golden State has openings he could fill in and fans are getting prematurely excited about Howard taking those spots. However, analysts warn that it’s a standard workout and might not confirm a deal.

O’Neal didn’t say if he was all for it or not. Previously, he taunted Howard for heading to international waters to play against non-NBA talents.

“He’s supposed to have 30 points playing against a dude 5’8,” O’Neal quipped in an interview a few months ago. Perhaps O’Neal wants Howard back in the NBA so they can drag out their beef on domestic turf.

Both giants have a longstanding feud, but it doesn’t have to do with basketball. It relates to their common obsession, which doesn’t make them see eye to eye.

Since his early NBA career, Big Diesel has been all about Superman. He’s so obsessed with the Man of Steel, the iconic logo has a prominent spot on his body art. He even customizes his luxury cars with the logo.

On the other hand, Dwight Howard is no less obsessed. He fashions his own nicknames as Superman and Steel Man too. The duo goes back and forth over who owns the Superman rep more.

But they have instances of putting their differences aside. Shaq threw in his rival in the hat for Team USA’s lineup heading to the World Cup and the Olympics. For now, Howard’s future in the NBA is still up in the air. Maybe he’ll pull a Superman move to get one more NBA season in. And Shaq will definitely be watching.
