Iverson’s mom played an integral part in his becoming the player he was. In a recent interview with GQ, Iverson revealed that even after struggling a lot in his life, it was Iverson’s mom who gave him the advice that made him believe in himself.
Iverson said, “My mom told me that I could be anything that I wanted to be“. So with his mom’s advice, he needed a vision. He did not have to look far for it as Michael Jordan was who he wanted to be. He wanted to leave an impact on people’s minds, as Jordan did.
Iverson said, “When Black Jesus on the court, yeah everybody is gonna know who 23 is. But when you leave tonight, you gonna know who number three is.“
With this advice instilled in his mind by his mom, Iverson started believing in himself. Even though he was short compared to his opponents, his belief in himself made him push through everyone and become one of the best players ever.
