As fans eagerly debate whether Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s potential rap battle will go down as one of the greatest in hip-hop history, Rashad McCants has thrown a curveball into the mix. Previously, a vocal supporter of Kendrick Lamar on Gil’s Arena podcast, McCants recently poked fun at Drake’s potential comeback against Lamar, likening it to Devin Haney’s lackluster performance in his fight against Ryan Garcia. But, what exactly is McCants getting at with this comparison?
Recently, the Hip Hop All Day official X page stirred up excitement with a post hinting at a possible rematch between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The buzz intensified when Drake himself dropped a cryptic message on his Instagram story: “We will win game 2.” This led many to speculate that Drake might be gearing up for another showdown with Lamar, as Hip Hop All Day’s X profile cheekily suggested, “Drake is hinting that he’s ready to go for a second battle with Kendrick Lamar 👀😳.”
Despite this growing anticipation, Rashad McCants didn’t seem impressed. He took to social media to downplay Drake’s intentions, quipping, “Yo got knocked out so cold he don’t even know the game over!!! Man going out like Haney lol sad.” McCants’ jab references Devin Haney’s unexpected defeat at the hands of Ryan Garcia, where Haney’s bold predictions fell flat.

The fight resulted in Garcia winning via majority decision. He had knocked down Haney three times in rounds 7, 10, and 11 before coming away with victory by a majority decision.
Back in May, on Gil’s Arena podcast, the former Sacramento Kings player reiterated his stance. McCants dismissed the supposed rivalry between Drake and Kendrick as one-sided, arguing that Lamar has consistently come out on top, while he acknowledged the high quality of music from both artists. He was also of the opinion that the so-called beef was more hype than substance.
While discussing the feud between the two artists, Rashad McCants compared Drake’s supporters to 4x NBA MVP, LeBron James. But, why?
Rashad McCants compares Drake fans to LeBron fans for not so good reason
Interestingly, Rashad McCants didn’t hold back on drawing comparisons between Drake and LeBron James’ fanbase during the same podcast. He remarked, “All I know is this, I found out that Drake fans are like LeBron fans.” This sparked a playful exchange with co-panelist Josiah Johnson, who quipped whether it was because LeBron’s fans are “rational, reasonable, and fact-based.” McCants took it further, noting, “I found out that Kendrick fans are the more realistic, art-appreciative fans just like the Kobe [Bryant] fans. And I think that’s the side that we’re on.”
McCants seems to suggest that LeBron’s fans, much like Drake’s, focus heavily on stats and accolades when making their case for greatness. They highlight LeBron’s numbers and the trophies he’s earned, drawing a parallel to how Drake’s supporters might champion his commercial success.

On the other hand, Kobe Bryant’s fans—much like Kendrick’s—value the artistry, impact, and passion behind the performance, celebrating the intangible qualities that made Kobe a legend on the court and Kendrick a master of the mic.
