A brutally honest opinion may still get some respect, but backtracking on it might not. And fans have shown this to Reggie Miller. Notably, the former NBA star, during Game 4 between the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves, praised Anthony Edwards for taking accountability for the team’s performance. However, during this praise, he criticized the players who fail to hold themselves accountable and rather point fingers. And the words he used seemed to be a shot at LA Lakers icon LeBron James.
But during his appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Miller denied his words to be targeted at the King. “I’m talking taking a shot in general… I know a lot of people want to think and assume it’s LeBron I’m taking shots at… If it was LeBron, I would have said LeBron James,” he said on the podcast episode. The 58-year-old further mentioned that he has seen a lot of guys deflect the criticism coming towards them. And then there is someone as young as Edwards taking responsibility. So his statement can be viewed as anything but a shot on LeBron James, Miller claimed.

During the Game 4 between Nuggets and Wolves, Miller had commented, “We’ve got certain guys with veteran status in our game that are on a lot of people’s Mount Rushmore that like to deflect and point fingers at others.” So considering the ‘Mount Rushmore’ part of his statement, the comment was most likely about LeBron, with only other possibilities being Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. More so, knowing King James has faced heat for calling out teammates after losses.
While there was an obvious backlash from LeBron James’ fans, there were few who supported Miller’s chain of thought. But now that the former NBA star has taken a U-turn of sorts, netizens seem infuriated than before.
NBA fans react on Reggie Miller denying LeBron James reference
A majority of the reply section under the post by ‘Dan Patrick Show’ has attacked Regie Miller for not being honest with his opinion. In fact, one of the X users pointed out the irony in the 58-year-old’s criticism of players deflecting the criticism coming their way.
He’s playing chess by deflecting. Just like the guy he’s talking about! Brilliant

Meanwhile, another X user was so infuriated with this backtracking on seemingly obvious reference that he went to the extent of calling Miller a “disgraceful coward”.
What a disgraceful coward

Yet another person showed his concern about why sports analysts are so afraid of speaking their mind. He understands the reference to be about LeBron James. But fails to understand the “fear” behind accepting such references. Interestingly though, the consequences have supposedly been felt by the analysts; including Clippers’ TV analyst Bruce Bowen back in 2018, whose contract was not renewed and reportedly so after critiquing Kawhi Leonard on Sirius XM Radio.
Everyone knows who’s he’s talking about. Everyone knows who he couldn’t be talking about. What’s the controversy? The controversy should be why sports analysts are afraid to give their opinion and name names. Why the fear?

Meanwhile, some of the users extended their support to Miller for his “Mount Rushmore” claim to being right, though they still believe the reference was towards LeBron James.
1000 percent he was talking about LeBron and he “was” correct.

However, @EDMacGarvey went too harsh on the fans of the LA Lakers star in his understanding of Reggie Miller’s situation and why Miller would not stand behind his statement.
He should stand behind his comments and say it’s about LeBron but I understand not wanting to deal with all the low IQ Bronsexuals
