With a star-studded golf team, Team USA?s chances are looking good in this year?s prestigious Ryder?s Cup. We all know the competitive spirit of Michael Jordan. We get to witness another one of his inspiring moments through the eyes of an American professional golfer, who was lucky enough to receive Jordan’s priceless advice.
The 2023 PGA Champion recalls the advice that 6x NBA champion Michael Jordan, who is an avid golf fan, once gave to him and the U.S. team.

The Chicago Bulls legend regularly attends the Ryder Cup. He once made a special appearance at the 2018 Ryder Cup which was being played at the ?Le Golf National? in Paris. On a Wednesday before the tournament in Paris, the Chicago Bulls legend visited the U.S. team?s locker room to give them some motivation before their tournament.
Brooks Kapoeka recalls, ?Michael was talking about how he would always play on the road against tough opponents or crowds that were always against him. It?s just funny hearing a different athlete’s point of view or the way they would go about it, and then you can kind of take what you want from there.?
The Golf legend further adds, ?He talked about how he didn’t hear the crowd. I took it as he couldn’t wait to shut them up, and the second he would go off ? the quieter they are [and] you’re kind of laughing inside [and] you’ve done what you wanted to do. I thought that was pretty cool.?.
Another U.S. golfing legend and good friend of Jordan?s, Rickie Fowler, was also in the room when Jordan was giving his motivational talk to the team. He said that Jordan regaled the team with stories from his iconic championship runs with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. Jordan talked about one story in particular which caught everyone?s attention.

Michael Jordan talked about the 1993 Finals series when the Chicago Bulls faced off against an intimidating Phoenix Suns, who stood in the way of their first three-peat. Chicago had failed to close out the series in Game 5, which was on their home court. The Phoenix Suns managed a Game 6 against the iconic Chicago Bulls team, threatening a Game 7 possibility.

As we all know, the Chicago Bulls won Game 6 against Phoenix and achieved their first three-peat. Michael Jordan shared with the U.S. golf team in 2018 what he said to his team before traveling to Phoenix for Game 6. Jordan packed one suit and one bag for the trip to Phoenix and he said to his team, ?We’re going there for one job, it’s to go win.?.
This priceless insight into the mind of Michael Jordan in his prime must have been extremely motivational for the 2018 U.S. team. As the 2023 Ryder Cup commences on the 1st of October, one can only hope to hear more inspiring stories of Michael Jordan.
