During a recent segment on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe gave out their all-time top-five lists. When Shannon Sharpe gave his list, he did not have Kobe Bryant in his top 5. This led to fans cheering his name. As Smith then took the spot to give his top five, he addressed the fans regarding the Kobe chant.

Then Stephen A. Smith gave out specific reasons why Bryant did not belong there. But what got the most heat was when Shannon Sharpe pointed out an obvious caveat was not stable in Smith’s reasoning that he used to dismiss Kobe Bryant from even being the greatest Laker ever.

He further added that Smith is placing people on his list that he wants to have a good relationship with. Tabansi also said that Smith had revealed in the past that camps of famous athletes contact him when Smith has them on his lists. However, Tabansi was not the only one to question Smith’s choice.

Stephen A. Smith first said that Kobe Bryant had always been number two to Michael Jordan. He then said, “He is not the greatest Laker of all time. He is not. Three of those titles came with Shaq in his prime“.

Smith had Magic Johnson as his greatest Laker ever, and this made Shannon Sharpe question his reasoning. Sharpe asked Smith why he was not using the same reasoning to bring down Magic, as he won five championships while playing with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

This stunned Stephen A. Smith, and he said, “Well, that’s a lengthy conversation“. He was lost for words, and the show moved on to the next segment.

Johnson won the NBA Finals MVP award in his rookie season. While he only averaged 18.0 PPG, at the same time, Kareem Abdul Jabbar averaged 31.9 PPG, and there is a strong argument that he could have won the Finals MVP.

When Bryant and Shaq played together, they won three championships in a row. Although Shaq won the final MVP award in all three seasons, Bryant was right with him and averaged impressively in those years.
