Before the game, Devin Booker was just 23 points away from etching his name in the franchise’s history books. He knew he would get those points, so even the family was out there to celebrate. And to make the occasion more special, the 28-year-old wore the debut color of his Nike Book 1 signature shoe in Suns orange. He dropped 34 points to book his place amongst the franchise greats.
“Congratulations @dbook Well deserved!!! Legend in the making!!!” Baron Davis wrote on his Instagram story, alongside the post from the majority owner of the Phoenix’s NBA and WNBA teams. “Congrats @dbook for becoming the all-time leading scorer for the @suns!” Mat Ishbia continued in his post, “So proud of all your success on and off the court in PHX and excited to see you continue to do amazing things here for years to come.”
Devin Booker overtook Walter Davis as the Phoenix Suns’ all-time record scorer. Interestingly, Davis had the record for nearly 39 years, but he took 124 games more to set the mark of 15,666 points. In the third quarter against the Portland Trail Blazers, D-Book sunk a 23-foot three-pointer, to reach that milestone.

Baron Davis was not the only one to wish Booker. even teammate Kevin Durant took to social media to celebrate. “A lot of bucks and more on the way…congrats @dbook.”
Being the 13th role overall pick, at the time many had reservations about him leading the franchise. Apart from his rookie season, he has averaged 22 points per game in the rest 9 seasons. Plus, he has established himself as a revered figure with the fanbase.

Devin Booker wants to emulate Kobe Bryant
“On the next level, I know I’m gonna have to create more for myself… I guess just stay tuned.” After his draft, the 4x All-Star wanted the world to know about his career trajectory. One can safely say he was not wrong, as he has even won two Olympic Gold medals to further stamp his legacy. His father recently revealed how he sees his son fare in the league.
“That’s something he always said. He always wanted to stay here. Kobe had a big influence on him. Kobe played with one franchise. I hope we can pull that off and do the same thing here.” Melvin Booker gave the example of the Lakers legend, as the Black Mamba wore Purple and Gold for the entire twenty years of his career. And Melvin claimed his son plans to do the same for the Suns.

This comes after Devin Booker admitted his insecurities after the unexpected trade of Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis. “It’s just, you can’t predict it. You know, it’s a business. They’re always having a conversation about you. So, you know, don’t think you’re safe at any point.” So, his father might be hinting at the Suns’ front office to not trade away his son. We will have to wait and watch if Devin Booker ends his career as a one-man team like Kobe Bryant.
