Big promises come naturally to Shaq, but can he always keep up with them? Over the years, the LA Lakers icon has promised countless lavish gifts to those around him, from fans to teammates, often surprising everyone with his spontaneous acts of kindness. He’s covered entire store bills for strangers, bought houses for his loved ones, and frequently picked up massive dinner tabs. However, even with a staggering car collection worth an estimated $2.15 million, there’s one promise that stands out in NBA history for going unfulfilled.
In a recent episode of ‘the OGs’ podcast, Udonis Haslem playfully called Shaq out for this unkept promise, a story that has basketball fans laughing yet again at O’Neal’s extravagant unmet pledges. “Shaq still owes us Bentleys,” said Haslem. This was followed by Dwyane Wade’s comment, “But we got that chip though. Big fella did us right, he do owe us the Bentleys,”
The main catch that was set up by the seven-footer in 2006 was that if Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem won the championship, then O’Neal would give them a Bentley each which costs around $200k. However, it seems like the promise was never fulfilled. “The man told me and Dwyane if we win our first championship, he said, ‘If we win this title, I’mma buy y’all Bentleys. The man ain’t bought us Bentleys. We was motivated as hell, but what me and Dwyane did was go buy our own Bentleys…We believed, we was young, we ain’t know no damn better. He said, ‘What? Bentley? Sh** let’s go,‘” said Haslem during an episode of the Big Podcast with Shaq.

Is Shaq's unkept Bentley promise a blemish on his legacy of generosity?
Have an interesting take?
The unfulfilled Bentley promise serves as a fun footnote in the storied careers of both Shaq and Wade. It underscores Shaq’s big-hearted but often whimsical approach to relationships, where grand gestures sometimes slip through the cracks. Wade’s gentle reminder in the podcast is a humorous nod to the enduring bond between the two, built on years of respect and friendly ribbing. In the end, while Shaq may not have delivered on the Bentleys, he delivered something even more lasting: a legacy of joy, generosity, and unforgettable memories for his teammates and fans alike. However, even though Shaq didn’t give Wade and Haslem their Bentleys, there have been numerous instances where the seven-footer had given cars to others.
When Shaquille O’Neal gave cars to others
Shaquille O’Neal, widely recognized as one of the NBA’s greatest players, is known not only for his towering presence on the court but also for his big heart off it. Over the years, Shaq has developed a reputation for his acts of generosity, including giving away cars to those in need or bringing joy to people’s lives. His approach to giving back is as unique as he is – often spontaneous and filled with genuine kindness.
LeBron James, the big man’s former teammate during his time in Cleveland, has profited from this fact. Shaq gave “The King,” a high-end automobile valued which is a Rolls Royce Phantom for his 25th birthday. The car costs a staggering amount of $400,000. The list doesn’t end here. The Los Angeles Lakers veteran had also given out a Rolls Royce as a gift to Gawne, who is one of the rappers that he collaborated with to release the song ‘Chaos’. That particular Rolls Royce was valued at $ 1 million.
Apart from this there have been numerous instances when the seven-footer had given gifts to his peers. He had once given a Chevy Tahoe SUV to his former teammate Mark Madsen and at the same time had given Rolex watches to every member of the Lakers team. Beyond the material gift, Shaq’s generosity serves as an inspiring example of how celebrities can use their wealth and influence to make a direct impact in people’s lives.
