Michael Jordan rules the sneakers industry with his collaboration with Nike. However, several other players in the market aspire to reach the same level of success. While the confidence is admirable, we have yet to see a brand rule the world like Jordan. With Snoop Dogg entering the market, fans thought he would compete for the throne.
Surprisingly, Uncle Snoop wants no smoke when it comes to challenging the behemoth, Jordan. During his recent conversation with NBA veterans Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, the Doggfather talked about his new deal with Skechers.
Snoop said that he understands who dominates the market and where he stands on the food chain. So, competing against Jordan wasn’t even on his list when he inked the deal with Skechers. He said, “I respect his brand so much to where I would rather support it than compete against it or to be in the same lane with. I’m in a whole other demographic. N—a He’s here forever. Like, n—a he’s the greatest to ever do this…I was a fan as a kid, a fan as a grown-up”. Declaring MJ the GOAT in the sneakers business, Snoop said that he respects what MJ has done for the industry.

The Doggfather said that last year’s release AIR gave him some game on how to work in this business as well. So even though now he has his own line of shoes with a competitor, Snoop doesn’t hesitate in giving the pole position to Jordan.

Snoop Dogg’s old friend Martha Stewart helped him crack the deal
The 52-year-old said that initially there was some resistance to him linking with Skechers for this deal. And to his surprise, the resistance was coming in from inside his own camp. He said, “Thank Martha Stewart for that because somebody from my team was blocking. I ain’t gonna say his name, but the n—a was blocking. But he was blocking for the right reasons because he felt like Skechers and me didn’t connect.” The doubt regarding this collaboration was that the brand was beneath the Doggfather’s stature.
However, as a seasoned veteran in the world of business, Snoop understood the potential of this new deal and decided to go through with it. He said, “I took Martha Stewart’s advice. She said, ‘Snoop, you should get with Skechers because they don’t have anyone like you.” Thanks to Martha, Skechers now have a megastar on their roster.
