The 3x NBA champion retired from the league in 2019 after an illustrious career. However, Wade had stepped into the business world way before that. Today, several of his projects are successful and he is constantly adding new feathers to his cap. Be it his 2022 investment in an MLS soccer franchise or his most recent WNBA investment in the Chicago Sky, Wade has been keeping himself busy. The Heat legend also recently started a baby care company with wife Gabrielle called Proudly. Among all his investments, Wade’s liquor business has taught him the most while being the toughest nut to crack.

The 13x All-Star was recently in conversation with Andre Iguodala where he detailed his unfortunate experiences related to alcoholism. However, as a smart businessman, Wade saw an opportunity in this field and decided to step in back in 2012. Wade also talked about his plans and how he is going to take his business to new heights. Wade said, “My first real drink was…probably at like 28 years old”. “Any forms of drug, or alcohol, I wasn’t into it, because I saw what it did to people that I love”, Wade added. However, when the opportunity presented itself, the multi-millionaire grabbed it with both hands.

However, Wade believes that he is now better prepared to get into that industry than he was back in 2012. If given a chance to do it all over again, the $170 million star said, “I would come into it way different than I did.”

Dwyane Wade’s troubled beginnings

During a 2018 interview with People, Wade opened up about his childhood troubles. He revealed that growing up in Chicago was a real problem as the neighborhood he was in was marred by several issues. With the ugly side of drug addiction creeping inside his own family, Wade had to move to his father’s place at the age of 9. The 3x NBA champion has been extremely grateful for that because he believes it changed his life for the good.

As per Wade, if he remained in Chicago, his life would’ve been affected by the same issues other people around him were going through.
