At the age of 29, after winning three championships in a row, Michael Jordan shocked the world by announcing his retirement from professional basketball. But after spending a little over a year away from the sport, Jordan made his triumphant return to the league with just two words.

After being a competitive freestyle skier for 11 years, Nick Goepper announced his retirement earlier this year, in January. Although he was not able to stay away from the sport as long as Jordan did, Goepper announced his return to the game that he loves in a similar fashion as the Chicago Bulls legend.

Recently, Nick Goepper announced that he was coming back from retirement. Only this time, in a different competition. Similar to Michael Jordan, Goepper retired at his height. He was only 28 years old at the time.

Goepper was a specialist in ski slopestyle competitions. He has won a medal in the last three Olympics for this, with the most recent one being 2022.  While Michael Jordan took 18 months to announce that he is coming back, Goepper is making his return in just 10 months.

But he won’t be taking part in the competition that he is known for. This time he is going to face the ski halfpipe competition. To announce his return, he copied His Airness and made a Facebook post that read, “I’m Back.”

When talking about his return, Goepper said, “My main inspiration is I love doing this.” The American freestyle skier is currently just 29 years old, and he has revealed that he hopes to make the 2026 Olympics for the ski halfpipe competition.

Jordan loved the competition

Michael Jordan left the NBA in 1993 after winning three championships with the Bulls. At the time, Jordan was dealing with some personal issues.

Along with this, he felt like there was nothing more left for him to achieve in the NBA. With a lack of motivation, he left the sport. But 18 months later, he returned to the Bulls. Although Jordan knew that it would be a tough road to the top, he fought his way back.

After experiencing what it was like to win championships, staying away from the sport he loved took a toll on Jordan. He wanted to get back to that place and win a championship again. So he returned to the NBA in 1996.
