We’ve all seen those adorable videos of The Rock getting ambushed with glitter and makeup by his daughters—total girl dad energy, right? But here’s a crossover you didn’t see coming. Imagine a certain Hall of Famer letting his daughter give him a full eyeshadow makeover. And honestly? That kind of playful confidence tracks. Flashback to 2012 NBA playoffs, Dwyane Wade rocked a bright pink pantsuit with a deep V-neck shirt underneath and no socks with his loafers. He surely invited comments that compared his outfit to characters from “Miami Vice” or even called it a “Pepto-Bismol power suit.” But fast forward to now? He’s not just wearing the fits—he’s setting the trends.
And home is where things get even more fun. Sure, Wade turns heads on red carpets with his bold fashion choices, but some of his best style moments happen right in his living room. Because behind the designer shades and custom suits, Wade is also a full-on girl dad. And that means when his daughter Kaavia brings out the glitter, lip gloss, and eyeshadow palette, he’s sitting down and letting the makeover magic happen.
In a recent interview with People, Gabrielle Union and her daughter Kaavia shared the sweetest little moment that gave us a peek into their family life—and Wade’s unexpected adventures in makeup. When asked what she loves most about giving her parents makeovers, Kaavia delivered an adorably honest answer: “When I do your [Union’s] makeup, I like to look you good. But when I do Daddy’s makeup, he just doesn’t like it. He wipes it off.” Gabrielle, ever the encouraging mom, laughed and said, “But still, I think he looks good,” to which Kaavia quickly agreed, “Me too… especially his eyeshadow.”

But Kaavia definitely had her dad’s back when it came to the question of who takes longer to get ready. When asked, “Do you think Daddy or I take the longest?” Kaavia didn’t hesitate—“You take a long time,” she said. Gabrielle, surprised, laughed and said, “That was so fast. You don’t want to think about it? No?” But Kaavia was straight to the point: “You always take so long because you have to get your makeup done. I’m like, ‘Mommy, hurry up!’” Little one doesn’t hold back!
You can tell she takes pride in her tiny glam sessions, and even though Wade might not be racing to keep the eyeshadow on, there’s a quiet warmth in knowing he lets her do it anyway. It’s that kind of dad-daughter bond where love shows up in sparkly palettes and smudged eyeliner. But Wade’s love for fashion goes way beyond these sweet daughter-dad bonding moments.
Dwyane Wade’s bold confidence: More than basketball legacy

Is Dwyane Wade redefining masculinity with his bold fashion choices and dad-daughter makeup sessions?
Have an interesting take?
Wade didn’t just wake up one day and become a fashion icon — the roots go way back to Chicago, where his first style inspo was right at home. “My dad was just a fly dude,” Wade says. “And it didn’t matter if it was a sweatsuit or a suit.” That attention to detail stuck with him. So if you ever find yourself in the same room as Wade, don’t be surprised if he glances at your socks — he’s scanning. “It shows you a lot about how people care about themselves,” he adds. So now? He keeps the bar high. We’re talking massages, facials, nail appointments — “I’ve been getting my nails painted since 2007,” Wade casually tells to Highsnobiety.
But Wade’s fashion journey started long before his retirement. When the NBA introduced a “business casual” dress code in the mid-2000s, Wade embraced it fully. He didn’t like shopping at first, so he hired a stylist to help him stand out. “As I got older, fashion became more acceptable,” he shared. “My fashion sense was able to elevate.” And now, if style is self-expression, Wade’s entire wardrobe screams authenticity. “Me and my body, we love putting on clothes,” he says. “It’s not something I play around with. It’s part of my personality, part of my lifestyle. So I’m not just wearing clothes. I put that shit on.”
Wade’s confidence has carried him far beyond basketball. In retirement, his business ventures—fashion collabs, wine labels, and entertainment projects—have flourished, making his off-court portfolio just as impressive as his playing career. “I’m 42 years old, and somebody still wants to take pictures of me,” he joked. “So I’m going to enjoy putting on some beautiful clothes.”
Wade’s knack for turning heads is far from over. He continues to make bold fashion statements with ease, and his latest? The murse (man-purse). On the TODAY show, he casually revealed he’s been carrying one for years. “That’s when I was wearing it across my body,” he chuckled, as old photos flashed on screen. For Wade, the murse isn’t just an accessory—it’s a practical solution and a reminder that style knows no gender.
