“Thank you Chicago for forcing me to be great” His words from the celebratory night still have a lot of weight. After 16 years in the league, Derrick Rose announced his retirement as he focused on the next chapter of his life. To celebrate D-Rose, his family and friends were in attendance. His eldest, PJ caught the attention of multiple Knicks stars during the warm-up, including the team captain. Jalen Brunson shared a heartfelt moment which he shared on his podcast, which meant another teammate made a stunning revelation.

“When I got traded to New York, D Rose obviously was on the team so and like PJ would be out there like sometimes in warm-ups shooting around.” Josh Hart on the podcast, spoke about his interaction with Derrick Rose and his son. “And I just kept seeing PJ. I didn’t know who he was at the time shooting. ‘I’m like dog whose kid is out here just shooting.’ I’m like looking at security. I’m like ‘no one’s a to get this dude off the court’ and I finally realized it was D Rose.”

Hart and Derrick Rose shared the locker room for only a couple of months. In February of 2023, the former arrived in a trade deal with the Blazers. Meanwhile, the latter moved to Memphis in July of the same year to what turned out to be his final year in the league. In the beginning, Hart didn’t know who the kid was and was wondering why the security ain’t intervening. But later it made sense as he spoke about the latest encounter with Derrick Rose’s eldest.

“I’m like oh okay makes sense. And I think he was actually shooting when I was shooting in Chicago. He was like on the court shooting a little bit good old times,” via The Roommate’s show. Unlike the 29-year-old’s experience, the Knicks captain had a better one which gave him his MJ moment.

From the offset ‘The Derrick Rose Night’ celebration meant to be. The game night was on January 4th, as the Bulls faced the Knicks. The date and the opponents coincided with his tenure with the teams. As the jersey numbers he wore as a Bull (#1), a Knick (#4), and as a high school player at Simeon Career Academy (#25). Even the Knicks player had a lot of respect for the Chicago native.

“So before the game, I see PJ (Rose). He comes out so I go on the court while I shoot. … And so my dad’s like, ‘You need to get PJ a jersey.’ I’m like bet.” Jalen Brunson said on the show before Josh Hart told his story about Derrick and his son. “I give him the jersey, and I’m like asking for a marker. I was like ‘Yo, I want to sign it’. PJ looks at me like ‘No no, You’ll mess it up.’ I was like ‘Damn. I said that sh-t 20 years ago to MJ.'”

Derrick Rose, who announced his retirement from the NBA, is content with his life. He has launched multiple projects with the help of Adidas. Amongst the other initiatives, his major task involves coaching his eldest PJ. And by the Knicks player’s admission, the eldest son is doing well!
