Michael Jordan is one of the greatest scorers ever. He averaged 37 points in just his third season in the league. Scoring was never any trouble for the Chicago Bulls legend. Another legend from the opposite conference, Magic Johnson, was also great at basketball. But his versatility and ability to pass the ball at his height made him an unstoppable floor general.

They were both at the pinnacle of the NBA as they got into the 1990s. Being close friends with each other as well as working towards making the NBA a global sport, the two decided to put on a show for all ages. But unfortunately, it never came to fruition.

Magic Johnson reveals the missed opportunity

Magic Johnson was asked by Jake Hamilton about a missed opportunity from 1990. Hamilton said that in 1990 there were plans for a pay-per-view King of the Ring match between Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.

But Hamilton was stunned that it never happened and asked Magic about the reason behind it. Magic said that both he and MJ talked about it and thought that it was a good idea. They wanted to do it, but some things came between them, and they never did it. He does not fully remember the exact reason behind it, as it was 33 years ago. Magic said it might be the NBA that came between them.

Jordan and Magic have always been friends. Magic is also proud of Jordan’s business endeavors. He revealed that even during their European tour earlier that year, the two shared a moment where they thought of everything they had accomplished throughout their lives.

Magic calls Michael Jordan the greatest

In 2021, before the NBA Top 75 ceremony, MJ was seen talking to Magic about playing 1-on-1. But they are both old now, and we can never know who could have won the 1 on 1 between the two. But in 2013, Magic had an answer that let people know about his true feelings.

Magic said, “Michael would win. That’s not my game. My game is assisting, and setting up my teammates. Michael’s the greatest one-on-one player. I couldn’t go out and drop 60 like him, but he couldn’t run a team like I could.“

Magic was 6’8 with elite court vision, and his game revolved around involving his teammates to get better plays. MJ was a pure scorer whose primary focus was to score as much as he could. So in a 1-on-1 situation, even though Magic would be a mismatch on most occasions, he himself is picking Jordan to be the winner.
