Zion Williamson has been at the receiving end of media scrutiny since he was selected 1st overall in 2019. With his injury and fitness woes over the last few seasons, the criticism has piled up. It was only ignited further after the New Orleans Pelicans‘ recent loss against the Los Angeles Lakers in the semi-finals of the in-season tournament.
Concerns regarding Williamson’s weight were brought forward, and now people are questioning whether Zion is fully dedicated to his craft. Having heard the struggles of Zion Williamson, 7x NBA champion Robert Horry suggests a method employed by Dennis Rodman back in 1999 to help the young forward manage his weight.

During a recent episode of the Big Shot Bob podcast, Robert Horry was asked by Rob Jenners if he was concerned about Zion Williamson’s physique. “After seeing him up close, I’m a little worried. I’m a little worried about his weight“, admitted the 7x NBA champion.
Along with this, Horry went on to give some advice to Zion, which NBA legend Dennis Rodman practiced to get himself under control when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers.
After his time with the Chicago Bulls, Rodman was fully off the hook and immersed himself in a party lifestyle. In an attempt to make his way back to the NBA after signing with the Lakers in 1999, Rodman assigned a person to look after him if he was being tempted into going out and partying.

He wanted to maintain his NBA career and play to the best of his abilities, so Rodman did what he could at the time to get himself under control. Big Shot Bob was also with the Los Angeles Lakers at the time, so he had witnessed it firsthand. Horry said, “I think they should have someone assigned to Zion to make sure and watch over him.“
Before Zion addressed the media that he had heard the concerns of the people, he gave a glimpse of the greatness that he possessed in his first match after getting eliminated from the in-season tournament.

While Williamson struggled against the Lakers, in his very next match against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are the best defensive team in the NBA, Zion went on to score 36 points.
The Timberwolves are currently the number one team in the West, but Williamson dominated against Rudy Gobert, one of the best defensive players in the world.
While people got a glimpse of Zion’s true potential, he has yet to show that he is fully dedicated to getting his weight under control. The Pelicans organization has stressed the importance of diet and conditioning for Zion. Although Williamson has a long path to get there, he is just 23 years old and can become the best player in the NBA once he gets himself in control.
