It’s not the first time Trinity Rodman has publicly laid out the estrangement with her father. But now, it’s not only Dennis Rodman responding. Rodman’s girlfriend who’s three decades his junior entered the chat. Where Dennis Rodman was apologetic and defensive, Yella Yella went for blunt and shock. She’s not holding back though the other person is her boyfriend’s adult daughter.
Trinity Rodman said, “He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else,” about her NBA legend dad on the Call Her Daddy podcast this week and set off an Internet storm. Her revelations about Dennis brought her a wave of sympathy online. Many even proclaimed the NWSL star is no ‘nepo baby’ despite her last name.
Her comments reached Dennis Rodman who responded the next night on his Instagram page. He captioned a video of pictures of himself with Trinity and her younger brother, DJ Rodman, from childhood to the present with a length note. He acknowledged and apologized for not being the best dad. However, he also explained that there were instances when he reached out and was turned away.

The comments flooded in and both Rodman and Yella Yella responded to them. Yella Yella initially commented, “❤️🩹❤️🩹Let the truth be told.” She later hit back at Trinity in another comment writing, “He reaches out All THE TIME!!” In the same statement, told her, “If you hate him so much Change your last name.”
In his post, Rodman wrote that he tries calling his kids, “even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls.” He also wrote, “I’m here and I’m still trying pick up the phone you have my number, you see me calling.”
Now this is striking since most observers believe the Rodman has little involvement in Trinity’s life and virtually nothing to do with Trinity’s accomplishments. Trinity even said she doesn’t like talking about her dad though she gets asked about him a lot.
When she was drafted by the Washington Spirit at 18 years old in 2021, she became the youngest player ever drafted into the NWSL at the time. She claimed her father was not in contact with her at the time and the first she’d see him in months was when he surprised her at the NWSL playoffs that season.
She’s fresh off her international stint, boasting 10 goals and 9 assists in 45 appearances for the US Women’s National Team. She was one of the stars who won gold at the Paris Olympics. Despite the off-court achievements, her personal life doesn’t seem to be all that glamorous. Trinity claimed on the podcast that her father hasn’t contacted her for months or years now. But, interestingly, Yella Yella claims that Rodman does reach out and it’s his kids who shun him.
The Rodmans’ contrasting claims
It’s not just about Trinity. Yella Yella didn’t stand for any hate coming Rodman’s way. She replied to one cynical comment about the lack of proof that Dennis reached out with, “it’s giving don’t know wtf u talking about.”
When she opened up about Dennis Rodman on the podcast, Trinity said that she, her brother DJ, and her mother lived out of a car because the 5x NBA champion didn’t pay child support. “We tried to live with him, but he’s having parties 24/7, he is bringing random b—hes in. He loves the spotlight. He loves the cameras,” she said.

Dennis contrasted the claim writing, “I wish my kids would call me and come see me.”
He also seems to address Trinity saying, “Hearing her voice is painful,” by writing, “I’m always here And tell you all the time rather it’s your voice or voicemail how proud I am.”
He also narrated, “I watch you play All the time😊 (actually flew in to watch you play and was told not to show up bc who I was with instead and me just wanting to support you So I watched you from my hotel balcony just to make everybody happy.” It almost hints that he was not allowed to watch her game because the person “who I was with” could be Yella Yella.

He was contradicting Trinity’s claim that he had been radio silent for months until they met sometime this year. “Stupid me for thinking that was gonna be some type of new spark. That was me every single time. He would come around, and I’d be like ‘Okay, here it is again. We’re gonna start something. He’s gonna be around.’ Boom, months and months and months (without speaking to him). This time, it was years,” she said.
Which of the Rodmans is truthful is hard to tell. Yella Yella, though, has a clear side. Where Dennis is pushing for reconciliation, Yella seems to be provoking her to make the estrangement permanent. What do you think about the Rodmans’? Share your thoughts with us in the comments?
