Dennis Rodman says Madonna didn't 'fix' him—Is he right to reject her influence on his image?

“Without Madonna, there is no Dennis Rodman,” the words of John Salley reflect the impact the singer had on the 5x NBA champ. Most fans of the two would know how she helped The Worm further express his personality. But it was never about fixing any aspect associated with him or his identity. Rodman revealed something similar during his appearance on the Got Sole podcast.

During the podcast, host Joey Dimodica stated that Madonna once said Rodman’s teammates from the Spurs thought he was gay until she came around. “Well, not really because Madonna, I don’t like talking about it too much but me and Madonna had a good relationship. We had a good friendship and we dated for a minute and strangely enough, she used to come in the locker room and just sit there,” the ex-NBA star stated.

Despite the fact the relationship didn’t last long, to this day it remains The Worm’s one of the most popular and publicized ones. While one reason was the wild nature of this relationship, yet another one was the impact she had on Dennis Rodman.

“But it was no big deal. Guys just let her sit there… I used to go hang out with her. So I go to practice the next day, fly back to LA, whatever. This same old, same old… but it was cool,” he said. Most fans of Rodman and Madonna would know that the two started dating back in 1994. And the relationship quickly became the talk of the town.

Notably, Madonna met the 5x NBA champ when he was on somewhat of a shaky ground in 1993. Following his divorce from Annie Bakes and struggles with the San Antonio Spurs, many doubted his future in the NBA. But everything changed in 1994 when Madonna entered the picture. Their brief relationship proved to be a turning point for Rodman.

However, it wasn’t as if it was just The Worm who needed Madonna in his life around 1993. It was a two-way street.

Her career was declining“: Dennis Rodman revealed what led to him dating the Queen of Pop

During an appearance on The Breakfast Club podcast, the 5x NBA champ stated the possibility of Madonna’s interest in him being because of his reputation. “In 1993, I think her career was declining, and she said the reason why she dated me was because I was a bad boy,” he said.

However, their relationship was not just high-profile but also filled with unusual moments. The singer even proposed a startling arrangement, as per a revelation made by 6x All-Star himself. “She asked me if I got her pregnant, she’d pay me $20 million.” The eccentricities didn’t stop there, though.
